With the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6 approaching, other game developers are carefully adjusting their release plans to avoid competing with it. Now, Tomb Raider fans will have to wait longer for the new installment, Legacy of Atlantis, as its release has been delayed.
With GTA 6 currently scheduled for a November 2026 release, there haven’t been any announcements of other games launching around the same time. Instead, many developers have recently announced release dates for September and October, and the latest PlayStation State of Play event added even more titles to that timeframe.
Many developers are delaying their game releases, worried about being overshadowed by Rockstar’s upcoming title. Crystal Dynamics has now joined them, announcing that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will launch on February 12, 2027.
The upcoming Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a remake of the original 1996 game, is now scheduled to release in the same month as Fable. Fable’s release was recently delayed to February 2027 to avoid competing with major games like GTA 6 and other role-playing games, including The Blood of Dawnwalker. If everything stays on track, we can also expect Tomb Raider Catalyst to be released later in 2027.

It’s unfortunate, especially since October marks the 30th anniversary of Tomb Raider. Releasing Legacy of Atlantis now would have been perfectly timed to celebrate.
We still don’t know when the new Tomb Raider series starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be available on Prime Video. Filming was paused after an injury to a lead actor, following initial excitement about Sophie Turner’s portrayal of Lara Croft. This series is one of many video game adaptations currently in production, joining popular shows like Fallout and The Last of Us. And it seems Atomfall is the next game getting the TV treatment!
Both projects are still some time away, so it’s hard to say exactly how Turner and Alix Wilton Regan, who will also play Lara, will impact the series.
Several actors have played Lara Croft over the years, and now a new one is joining their ranks. Will this new Lara follow in their footsteps and, famously, lock her butler, Winston, in the freezer? We’ll have to wait and see!
