The upcoming Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again, is shaping up to be the longest Marvel Cinematic Universe show so far, and fans are especially excited for its third season. The previous season saw a fierce battle between Wilson Fisk, known as Kingpin (played by Vincent D’Onofrio), and Daredevil (Charlie Cox). It ended with Kingpin forced out of New York City and Daredevil imprisoned after publicly revealing his identity as a vigilante.
The third season will focus on Matt Murdock’s life after prison, showing how he adjusts and potentially escapes. It will also explore how the other characters react to the major shifts happening in the criminal underworld, particularly with Kingpin gone. A highly anticipated crossover event will bring together the original Netflix Defenders – Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist – to protect New York City and assist Matt. Fans are also hoping this season will introduce a significant villain from the Marvel Netflix universe into the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Daredevil’s Charlie Cox Wants The Purple Man In The MCU
In an interview with Empire, Charlie Cox discussed the season finale of Daredevil: Born Again. A key moment involved Matt Murdock revealing his identity as Daredevil in court while defending Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll). During a tense cross-examination of Mayor Fisk, Matt cleverly maneuvered the situation so that exposing Kingpin required Daredevil’s testimony. By revealing himself, Matt secured Page’s acquittal and brought national attention to Fisk’s corrupt practices. However, this came at a cost: Matt was arrested for violating New York’s law against vigilantes and now faces trial.
Daredevil, similar to Spider-Man, is a modern Marvel hero who goes to great lengths to keep his identity a secret. Like Spider-Man, that secret hasn’t always been safe, and he’s had to find clever, sometimes extreme, ways to protect it. In one Marvel comic, Daredevil (Matt Murdock) saved the world from the villain Kilgrave, also known as the Purple Man, who was using his children’s mind control abilities for global domination. As a thank you, the children used their powers to make everyone forget that Daredevil and Matt Murdock were the same person.
Charlie Cox remembers thinking that Purple Man’s kids essentially helped Daredevil by erasing people’s memories of him, or something similar. He admitted he didn’t want that storyline to happen, but strongly supported the idea of David Tennant joining the show.
How David Tennant’s Killgrave Could Join the MCU

The idea of ‘Purple Children’ works better as a comic book storyline than a Disney+ TV show. Even after being released from prison, Matt Murdock will still grapple with the fact that his secret identity is public – a challenge Spider-Man already overcame in Spider-Man: No Way Home. While Murdock doesn’t have a friend like Doctor Strange who could magically erase everyone’s memories, the villain Killgrave, as played by David Tennant, could potentially offer a solution.
At the end of the first season of her Netflix show, Jessica Jones killed Killgrave, seemingly ending his reign of terror. But in the Marvel Universe, death isn’t always permanent. Killgrave could be brought back to life through scientific experiments, and might even look more like his comic book version – a man with purple skin. After the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, David Tennant could reprise his role as a different version of Killgrave, fitting into the new Marvel Cinematic Universe. This could lead to exciting new storylines for both the actor and the character. By Season 4 of Daredevil: Born Again, fans might be eager to see a crossover between Daredevil and the Purple Man.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 is in production. Season 2 is streaming on Disney+.
