Okay, seriously, everyone is watching Love Island USA and I am obsessed! But can we talk about Zach? When Ariana introduced the new Islanders, I swear I recognized him… and then it hit me! He’s Charlie Georgiou’s brother! Can you believe it?! He literally said it on the show! He was like, ‘My brother Charlie was on Love Island last year, and now I’m here to see if I can do better and find love!’ I’m already rooting for him! He’s been single for three years, which is wild, and apparently he’s never been heartbroken. He had a four-year relationship, but said the love just faded, which, okay, fair enough. He’s a little shy about his ‘pickup game,’ but he has a secret weapon! Apparently, he always brings up One Direction when he’s talking to girls, and it works! He’s a real fan, and people are always shocked when he starts dropping 1D knowledge. I mean, who doesn’t love One Direction?! This season is already amazing, and I have a feeling Zach is going to be a fan favorite!
Zach is looking for a partner who is fun, outgoing, and American. He’s also very clear that anyone he dates must love his cat – it’s a dealbreaker! He admitted he’s attracted to assertive women in the bedroom, explaining he prefers someone who will take the lead, partly because he’s not always full of energy. He quickly tried to retract that statement, insisting he’s not lazy.
Despite his playful personality, Zach took preparing for the show seriously. He followed a diet, worked out, and even got a full body shave – legs, arms, chest, and everything – to be in top shape for the villa.

Zach is hoping that joining Love Island USA from the beginning will give him a better chance at finding love than Charlie had last season. Charlie arrived later but connected with Hannah Fields, only to be eliminated on day 11 when Hannah coupled up with Jose “Pepe” Garcia-Gonzalez.
Currently, Zach is coupled with Mackenzie “Kenzie” Brooke Annis. Kenzie shared, “I really like his accent and his look, and I think we have a lot in common. I think we could have great chemistry, so I want to get to know him better.”
Although Zach initially seemed pleased with his choice, he later admitted to having some doubts, particularly that he’s never dated someone with blonde hair. He explained that he wasn’t feeling a strong connection or the desire for affection with his current partner, adding that it was only the first night. Viewers will have to wait and see if Zach and Kenzie remain a couple or pursue other options, especially after Zach shared a kiss with new contestant Kayda Reese Bosse at the end of the episode.

Charlie will always be a supportive fan. He shared a video from a watch party on Instagram Stories, enthusiastically writing, “lets goooo,” as the premiere happened. You can find out more behind-the-scenes details when the next episode airs on Peacock on June 3rd.

Each day, the show collects hours of footage from 85 hidden cameras, and editors carefully trim it down to create a one-hour episode.
That’s just how the process works: editors receive footage on Monday and quickly finish the episode for broadcast on Tuesday, repeating this fast turnaround every day.
Fortunately, filming for the show takes place in Fiji, which is 16 hours ahead of the East Coast. This means when the team finishes working late at night there, it’s still morning in the U.S., giving them more time to perfect each new episode.
According to executive producer Claudine Parrish, the show’s editors quickly create scenes based on what’s unfolding with the islanders. As soon as something happens – like ‘the boys making breakfast for the girls’ – it’s labeled and incorporated into the edit within about 15 minutes, allowing the editors to craft it into a complete scene.
Creating each story requires a large team effort: Parrish explained that around 30 editors and 20 producers work together, and a dedicated story team decides how to combine key moments and conversations into a cohesive narrative.
Parrish acknowledged that not every promising idea actually leads to something significant. “We don’t succeed every time,” she explained. “We’re constantly evaluating whether something is truly important or just a temporary trend.”

On this show, breakfast is definitely considered the most important meal. And because the male contestants are responsible for making food and coffee for the women on Love Island USA, what they prepare has become a surprisingly popular topic of conversation around the world.
But what does everyone eat for lunch and dinner, you ask?
On this show, the food isn’t really the main attraction—unless something goes hilariously wrong with it, like burnt pancakes or a beginner’s omelet. But it’s always there if people want it.
In a 2021 interview with HELLO!, Love Island UK season four winner Dani Dyer explained that there aren’t any set menus in the villa. Instead, they have catering, meaning contestants make their own breakfast – things like eggs, bacon, and toast.
Luca Bish from season eight of the show didn’t know who prepared the food, joking in a July 2023 TikTok that a ‘mystery chef’ was cooking off-site and delivering it to the villa.
Bish didn’t enjoy the food much, and often ate just hummus and chips for both lunch and dinner.

Throughout the show’s history, contestants have shared that men and women generally eat meals separately, unless they are on a date with each other.
Olivia Attwood, who appeared on season three of Love Island UK, described the show’s environment to The Sun in 2022, saying it felt less like a luxury vacation and more like boarding school. She explained that even during meals, producers would remind contestants about chores like cleaning their rooms, doing laundry, and taking breakfast orders to keep things running smoothly.
And much like being on a jury, they’re not allowed to discuss the case among themselves.
Season eight contestant Samuel Agbiji explained to Closer in 2024 that the experience was chaotic. He said that while the contestants were eating, they wanted to discuss what was happening, but they couldn’t because it would interfere with filming.

You might expect contestants to be able to drink freely, but they’re actually limited to just one alcoholic beverage each night – and it has to be beer, wine, or sparkling wine.
As a huge fan of Phoebe Siegel from Love Island USA Season 4, I was cracking up at her TikTok from June 2024! She was talking about being offered wine with dinner, and she playfully pointed out that the serving wasn’t very big – definitely ‘not a generous pour,’ as she put it!
According to Siegel, when the contestants seemed to have access to a free bar – like after winning a challenge in Casa Amor – the drinks were actually very weak, made with a lot of water.

As a huge fan, I’m always amazed by Iain Stirling! He somehow manages to narrate both the UK and USA versions of Love Island – it’s a crazy workload! When they’re actually filming, I imagine his schedule must be absolutely packed.
I was completely hooked on Love Island UK! Every day at noon in the UK, I’d be online watching. The UK show would pretty much be done by then, and that’s when I’d start writing for a couple of hours, usually finishing around 4 or 4:30. Then it was full-on family mode – getting dinner ready for my child, bath time, and bedtime. Honestly, I wish my life felt a little more exciting, but that was my routine. After all that, I’d grab something to eat and then switch over to Love Island USA at 8:30 – which meant it was super early in Fiji where they were filming!
According to The Wrap, Stirling reviews early versions of the show remotely via Zoom. Executive producer Parrish said that Stirling and the writers listen for humorous moments or story details, recording their observations using his home microphone.
He records his commentary for each episode before it’s reviewed by Peacock’s legal and standards department, who occasionally request final edits.
Stirling explained to TODAY that they usually aim to wrap up around midnight or 1 a.m., but he often stays awake until 1:30 or 3 a.m. because of the time difference and the U.S. audience. Ideally, he’d stay up until 5 or 6 a.m., but that would mean he’d get no sleep at all.
As a big fan, it’s so heartwarming to see real-life success stories come from the show! I was thrilled when Stirling Horgans and Laura Whitmore got married in 2020, and even more excited when they had a little girl in March 2021. It just proves that Love Island can truly bring people together for the long haul.

The music on Love Island USA – from the beginning notes of Janelle Monae’s “Make Me Feel” to the theme song, “From Fiji With Love” by The Daniel Pemberton TV Orchestra, and all the other pop tracks throughout the show – has really created a distinct and memorable atmosphere.
James Barker, executive producer of Love Island USA, first realized the show’s potential while watching Love Island UK. As he told Rolling Stone in June 2025, seeing how the show integrated popular music into its storylines made him think, ‘This is incredible, and more shows should do this.’ It immediately sparked his desire to work on Love Island.
Choosing songs for scenes happens quickly, but a music clearance company starts working months in advance. They secure the rights to a wide range of popular tracks – including those by artists like Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, and Olivia Rodrigo – so they’re ready to use whenever needed, as Barker explained.
We prepare a large number of songs – often hundreds, sometimes even thousands – because we don’t know what moments the show will need music for,” Barker said. “We might think, ‘This song will be perfect for a breakup scene,’ or ‘This one will be ideal for a first kiss,’ anticipating those emotional moments as they happen.”

It’s a bit strange, but the people staying in the villa aren’t allowed to play music. This is partly because getting permission for all the songs would be a hassle, and also because music could drown out their voices, making it difficult for the show’s cameras and microphones to record everything.
Okay, so usually I’m totally against songs being used ‘in the moment,’ you know? But there are times… like when they’re facing a crazy challenge, or having one of those epic slow-mo dance parties? Those are okay. And honestly, if they’re finally going on a date and the cab driver just happens to be playing the perfect song? Forget about it. It’s fate! I’ll allow it. It just feels right in those situations.

The show provides makeup and skincare for the cast, so they always look good on camera. They’re welcome to bring their own products too, but any visible brand names will be blurred out when the show is edited.
For more involved beauty routines, contestants rely on professional help. Lucie Dolan, from season five of Love Island UK, explained to Capital FM in 2021 that they’d typically get their nails and hair done every two to three weeks. She noted that the long nights in the villa are exhausting and unseen by the public, so downtime and relaxation are essential.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve learned a lot about self-care routines, and it’s fascinating to see how even those with busy schedules prioritize it! I recently spoke with former host Whitmore, and she shared that on her days off – when she wasn’t filming – she’d always make time to refresh her look, specifically getting her eyelashes and acrylic nails touched up. It’s a lovely example of carving out ‘me time’ even when life gets hectic.
In the past, people from the island had to travel for this show, but now filming regulations prevent contestants from being filmed in remote locations.
Laura Whitmore explained that in the show’s first season, contestants were allowed to leave the villa for hair appointments. However, due to the show’s increased popularity, that’s no longer possible, so a hair stylist now comes to the villa to touch up their roots.

Producers say they’re perfectly content to ride the waves of romance.
According to Ben Thursby-Palmer, an executive producer for Love Island USA, the show reacts to what’s actually happening with the contestants. He explained to The Wrap in 2024 that if couples seem stable and happy, there’s no need to shake things up with a recoupling ceremony. However, if contestants are consistently sleeping apart and relationships are unstable, the producers will intervene to mix things up and create new pairings.
According to season nine contestant Samie Elishi, Love Island UK isn’t scripted. In a YouTube video from April 2023, she explained that while producers don’t tell them what to say, they do encourage contestants to talk to specific people – like their partners or those they’re having conflicts with – because that’s what drives the show. Ultimately, what’s discussed in those conversations is up to the islanders themselves.

The show provides the contestants with phones to communicate – they can call, text, take pictures, and receive notifications about challenges and events that will be announced.
Liana Isadora Van Riel, who appeared on season two of Love Island UK, explained to The Sun in 2019 that the show provides contestants with simple phones primarily for the dramatic effect of receiving texts. She noted that the phones aren’t really used for much actual communication.
As Love Island USA contestant Kassy Siegel explained in a TikTok video, participants are completely cut off from the outside world – no internet searching, television, social media, or even texting friends and family.

Following in the footsteps of other reality show hosts who try to remain neutral, Ariana Madix, the host of Love Island USA, has to act like she’s not personally affected by the drama happening on the show.
She explained to The Wrap in 2024 that it’s difficult to stay neutral. While she sometimes feels the urge to participate in the conversation, her role as host requires her to remain impartial, especially when she’s on camera.
She also spoke up when Andrea Carmona was eliminated in season six, and Rob Rausch spontaneously said he would leave the show with her. Madix calmly suggested he think it over, and he ultimately decided to stay.
Madix said she didn’t believe it was a good idea to make such a significant decision when she was feeling so emotional. She also admitted she partly wanted to test if he was serious about leaving, as she doubted he actually wanted to.

Madix, who stays at a hotel with a view of the villa during filming, pointed out that the islanders aren’t filmed by visible cameramen. Instead, the villa is covered with fixed cameras and hidden cameramen positioned behind movable walls. While there are no completely private spaces—except for bathrooms and showers—the islanders should assume they’re always being recorded, even if they think they’re having a private conversation.

According to Elishi from Love Island UK, the kitchen pantry is a good place to have private moments because there are no cameras. In a video from April 2023, she explained that only one person is allowed in the pantry at a time, referencing a previous romantic encounter that took place there.

Several contestants from the UK version of Love Island have revealed that the villa is stocked with condoms branded with the show’s logo, and more are provided if needed.
Additionally, former contestant JaNa Craig shared with Cosmopolitan that all participants undergo STD testing before entering the villa.

Before any major surprises happen that could change things, the newcomers get a chance to catch up on everything that’s already happened in the competition.
Chloe Burrows, a former contestant on Love Island UK, revealed on her April 2023 podcast, Chloe vs. The World, that new contestants are shown all episodes of the show except for the one airing right before their arrival. They then have to pick their top three favorite islanders from those already in the villa.

While the cameras never stop filming, the contestants do get one day off a week to just hang out.
This also means everyone needs to follow the mealtime rules: no gossip and any disagreements must be put off until the following day. Furthermore, because the workers don’t have scheduled days off together, men and women aren’t allowed to share rooms at night.
Kem Cetinay, a contestant on the UK version of Love Island from season three, explained on This Morning in 2017 that once contestants stop recording, they’re not allowed to discuss anything related to the show. While they can chat with each other, producers carefully monitor the conversations to ensure everything can be captured on camera for viewers at home. He described it as a break from the constant pressure of the games, dates, and figuring out romantic connections.
