Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega, Joanna Lumley and Catherine Zeta-Jones star on this week’s Radio Times

American television and film industries have a long history of casting British actors in major dramas and comedies. This might be due to the fact that they often draw from a pool of exceptionally skilled performers – even if there was an odd time when every villain in Hollywood productions seemed to be British, with a refined Rada accent.

In the contemporary cinematic landscape, it’s refreshing to see British actors taking on American roles, a testament to our growing inclusivity. This week, I had the pleasure of chatting with two remarkable women who have gracefully embodied American characters – Catherine Zeta-Jones, an Oscar winner for her portrayal in Chicago, and the incomparable Joanna Lumley.

In Tim Burton’s spinoff from the Addams Family films on Netflix, titled “Wednesday,” both characters appear, along with young actress Jenna Ortega. However, the intriguing dynamic between Zeta-Jones’ Morticia Addams and Lumley as her mother, Hester Frump, is what truly captivates the audience in this production.

Read our interviews with the three actors inside this week’s issue.

Additionally, don’t forget to catch our interview with the versatile Bill Bailey, a comedian, musician, actor, and dancer, who can no longer keep track of all the instruments he can master. Undeniably gifted, it won’t be long before the film industry comes knocking on his door.
