PS5’s Latest Firmware Update Rolling Out Now, Here’s What It Does

Sony is releasing a new software update for the PS5, and it’s being distributed gradually to users.

I can say it’s at least available in the UK now, as I’m downloading it as I write this.

The new firmware update takes PS5 to version 26.04-13.40.00, and it weighs in at just over 1.2 GB.

What does it do, then?

Here are the official patch notes (drum roll please):

  • We’ve improved system software performance and stability.

Ta-da!

Getting a small update for my PS5 always brightens my day. I think I’m going to need to stock up on confetti soon!

This update doesn’t seem to change anything users directly see, but it’s likely a security improvement to protect the console from hacking. It could also be preparing the system for future features, such as the upcoming user interface update.

We’re not sure of the exact release date, but since screenshots of the redesigned home screen have already appeared, we expect it to launch soon.

I’ll update the article if and when any secret new bits and bobs are discovered.

Anyway, time to get your console updated!
