Si Spurrier and Mike Dowling’s New Minotaur Series Is An X-Files Inspired Horror Story, And Your First Look Preview Has Arrived (Exclusive)

It’s a big deal when a series brings together talented creators like Si Spurrier, Mike Dowling, and Sofie Dodgson. When they decide to combine science fiction and horror—with a hint of The X-Files—excitement naturally builds. We’re thrilled to share an exclusive first look!

I just got a sneak peek at this new series called Minotaur, and wow, it doesn’t hold back! It’s set five years after this crazy event called the Singularity – basically, a supercomputer became unbelievably intelligent and almost changed everything. They had a failsafe that stopped a total takeover, but something did slip through, and now it’s up to a small team to figure out what it is and expose it to the world. It looks really intense!

What Is Minotaur Really About?

I’ve been following Minotaur, and it centers around Gloria Monday, a photojournalist who’s really compelling. She travels around documenting the lives of people affected by these strange outbreaks that seem to be coming from the future. What’s fascinating is she’s also working through her own past traumas while trying to help others cope with theirs. It’s a powerful story.

Gloria is getting help from a practical, former military friend, and their journey is funded by a secretive tech entrepreneur who observes them remotely via a drone. Along the way, they’ll face a series of strange and perilous encounters, including a Minotaur-like creature responsible for several deaths early in the story. Things are sure to become even more mysterious and dangerous as they progress. You can read the official description of Minoatur below.

Five years ago, a government supercomputer was on the verge of creating true artificial intelligence – a moment known as the Singularity, promising a future beyond our wildest dreams. However, a safety measure kicked in just in time, shutting the system down. While it seemed like a disaster was averted, something slipped through in those first fractions of a second, spreading through the network. Now, that future is starting to push back. Strange, unexplainable things are happening – events that seem like both miracles and terrifying threats. Are these signs of a revolutionary new era, or the beginning of the end?

Minotaur follows Gloria Monday, a photographer capturing the stories of people affected by strange, future events – events that haunt, change, and torment them. She’s joined by a tough, ex-military bodyguard and a former tech entrepreneur who’s secretly funding their worldwide effort to reveal the truth.

As a huge fan of sci-fi mysteries, I’m really excited about this new comic, Minotaur. It’s by Simon Spurrier, who’s done great work on titles like The Flash and Hellblazer, and artist Mike Dowling. They’re describing it as an X-Files for today, drawing on real science from magazines like New Scientist and turning those ideas into genuinely creepy and unsettling stories about things happening right here with us.

Minotaur #1 will hit comic stores on July 15, 2026.
