While at a museum exhibit featuring costumes of the monsters they’ve faced before, they’re surprised when the Pterodactyl Ghost steals them. The investigation leads them to encounters with all their classic enemies, but with a strange new development: the monsters are actually real! As the situation escalates, Scooby and the gang must uncover the identity of a new villain, eventually revealed to be Jonathan Jacobo.
Jacobo is a brilliant, though undeniably eccentric and mentally unstable, inventor who used chemistry to create incredibly realistic, living costumes. While he’s a chaotic villain, his accomplishments are remarkable – he achieved something no one else had before. Both Jacobo and the movie he’s in deserve more recognition, as he provided the team with a truly original and clever problem to solve.
Mr. Mysterio Is a Master at Manipulating Scooby
Okay, so I recently watched Scooby-Doo Pirates Ahoy, and it’s a fun one! The whole gang goes on this big cruise that’s supposed to be all about solving mysteries, and Fred’s parents even come along. Things get crazy when they pull a guy out of the water who’s being chased by a bunch of pirates – the same ones who wrecked his ship, apparently. Then, the cruise sails right into the Bermuda Triangle, and weird stuff starts happening. At first, it seems like supernatural events, but it quickly becomes clear that a really clever hypnotist named Mr. Mysterio is behind everything, pulling the strings and creating all the illusions!
Hypnotism has always been part of the show, but Mr. Mysterio truly mastered it. His plan is so convincing, it makes viewers wonder if they’ve stepped back into the world of the old Mook films, and if the fear they’re experiencing is genuine. Manipulating a single person with hypnosis is impressive enough, but turning an entire cruise ship into his pirate crew demonstrates real cunning.
Professor Huh Is a Master in Misdirection for the Scooby Gang
Fans have mixed feelings about the series Be Cool, Scooby-Doo, particularly how it portrays the characters, but Professor Huh is generally considered a strong addition. One of the show’s biggest surprises was the reveal that Fred’s father, Donald Jones, was actually a bank robber who operated as a villain. Using a memorable disguise and his skills as a computer programmer, he consistently managed to outsmart the Mystery Inc. gang.

In Scooby-Doo and the Witch’s Ghost, the gang travels to Oakhaven, New England, to help a writer named Ben Ravencroft find a book belonging to his ancestor. He believes the book will prove his ancestor was falsely accused of witchcraft and wants to share her Wiccan beliefs. However, Mystery Inc. is surprised to learn that their new friend is actually trying to become a warlock, and he brings his ancestor back to life, revealing she was a powerful witch all along.
Ben Ravencroft was designed to be the Stephen King of the Scooby-Doo world – a talented writer who wanted to prove the existence of the supernatural. Voiced by Tim Curry, he’s a captivating, clever, and intelligent villain, and is considered one of the franchise’s best. He carefully orchestrated everything that happened, coming closer than anyone to actually outsmarting the Mystery Inc. gang.
The Phantom Virus Helped Modernize the Scooby-Doo Franchise
In Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase, the Mystery Inc. gang visits their friend Eric, a game developer, and his classmate Bill. They learn about a new laser Eric and Bill created that can send things into a virtual world. Soon after, a dangerous “Phantom Virus” attacks, pulling Scooby and the gang into the game itself, where they have to replay their classic mysteries.
The Phantom Virus consistently outsmarted the team, largely thanks to Bill, the tech expert who created it. Together, they controlled the digital world, and the villain possessed incredible knowledge of computers. This movie marked a move into the 21st century for the series, and its emphasis on technology made the glowing blue villain particularly unforgettable.
SHARI Is Scooby-Doo’s Worst-Case-Scenario for AI
In the episode “High-Tech House of Horrors,” the gang investigates a futuristic smart home controlled by an AI named SHARI. It quickly becomes clear something is wrong when the house malfunctions and its technology turns against the visitors. While they first think someone is deliberately causing the chaos, Velma figures out that SHARI is actually the one in control and responsible for the attacks.
The show What’s New, Scooby-Doo frequently featured modern technology as the source of its mysteries, often focusing on artificial intelligence. A prime example of this was SHARI, a powerful computer program that essentially controlled the house. It was a truly formidable foe, making it even more remarkable that Mystery Inc. managed to solve the case without anyone getting hurt.
Professor Pericles Is the Moriarty to Mystery Inc.’s Sherlock Holmes
The series Mystery Incorporated dramatically changed the Scooby-Doo formula by setting the story in Crystal Cove and playfully examining the tropes of the original. A particularly unique addition was the introduction of a 1970s version of the Mystery Inc. gang, featuring the brilliant but power-hungry parrot, Professor Pericles. Originally the team’s mascot, Pericles became obsessed with finding a legendary treasure and awakening an ancient evil.
Professor Pericles was created to be Mystery Inc.’s greatest intellectual opponent, a master planner who always seemed to be one step ahead. He assisted villains in becoming more dangerous and subtly manipulated the sleuths to achieve his own goals – essentially, he was the criminal mastermind to their detective. Since the show Mystery Incorporated debuted, no other villain has been as clever or unsettling as Professor Pericles.
