If you’re excited about a new KPop Demon Hunters movie, there’s some news to share. Sony Pictures Animation has confirmed a sequel, but it won’t be released until 2029. While fans of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey will have to wait, there’s still plenty of interest in the series. Interestingly, another upcoming film, predicted to be a box office hit, features a KPop Demon Hunters crossover that’s earned an R-rating thanks to its impressive animation.
After a thirteen-year hiatus, Scary Movie 6 marks the return of the spoof series. The latest film playfully mocks recent horror hits like Scream, Get Out, Terrifier, and Longlegs, and even includes a funny nod to the animated group KPop Demon Hunters. In a drug-induced hallucination, Marlon Wayans’ character, Shorty, meets a cartoonish trio resembling the band. This segment is entirely animated and parodies their popular song “Golden” with a version called “Tokin’.” Though brief, this crossover shows that Scary Movie isn’t afraid to poke fun at any popular franchise, regardless of genre.
Scary Demon Hunters

Currently, projections estimate that Scary Movie 6 will earn between $45 and $65 million at the box office during its opening weekend. Although this isn’t on the level of the huge success seen with KPop Demon Hunters, it’s considered a significant win for Paramount, especially since the film reportedly cost only $30 million to make. While a seventh Scary Movie hasn’t been officially announced, these promising numbers are encouraging for fans hoping to see one. The Wayans Brothers would likely have plenty of options for parody material if they decided to continue the series, as there are many popular movies to draw inspiration from.
Even though fans of KPop Demon Hunters may have a long wait for a sequel, Netflix is exploring other ways to expand the franchise. Following the film’s popularity, the streaming service has considered developing TV shows and live-action versions. Plus, next year will see a KPop Demon Hunters World Tour bringing the movie’s music to life on stage for fans to enjoy.
The plot of the anticipated sequel to Huntrix remains under wraps. However, co-director Chris Appelhans shared that the next film will likely delve into the backstories of the demon hunters. He explained that the first movie focused on introducing the concept and characters, leaving little room to explore how they became demon hunters – their selection process and individual journeys. The filmmakers had to prioritize essential plot points, and those unanswered questions will be addressed in the sequel. Given the success of the first film, KPop Demon Hunters 2 is expected to make a big impact when it’s released.
