gaming giant Atari reveals a €4.5 million investment in SteamWorld publisher Thunderful, giving them an 82% ownership stake in the company’s stocks.
In this transaction, Atari gains control over five video game development studios and over twenty intellectual properties (IPs). Among these are Lost in Random, ISLANDERS, and the previously mentioned SteamWorld series.
In a press announcement, Atari’s chair and CEO, Wade Rosen, referred to the agreement as a significant step forward in the company’s endeavors to broaden its capacities.
Rosen went on to say: “Thunderful is known for producing and improving highly praised games. With their transformation plan, coupled with the excellence and dedication of Thunderful’s teams, we are optimistic that they will resume a profitable growth trajectory, contributing significantly to the expansion of Atari operations in Europe.
Following the confirmation this morning, Thunderful will restructure its operations to enhance cash flow. Unfortunately, Lost in Random: The Eternal Die didn’t sell as well as anticipated. Thunderful’s chairman, Patrick Svensk, remarked on this: “It’s unfortunate that we need to take additional operational steps which may impact some of our team members.
As a game enthusiast speaking, I wholeheartedly believe we’re on the right track with Thunderful. We’re aiming to construct an effective structure in the publishing industry that ensures our scheduled game releases continue smoothly.
