Ninja Theory announced their next game, called Senua. It’s a new action-adventure title set in the world of Hellblade, putting players back in the role of Celtic warrior Senua. This time, she’s stuck between life and death in a broken, purgatory-like realm, according to the studio. A trailer revealing the game is available to watch.
The two-minute trailer for the new game, Senua, showcases its gameplay, which will feel familiar to fans of previous games. Expect a lot of jumping and climbing to reach new areas, and intense, close-quarters combat where every hit counts.
So, the new game with Senua isn’t technically a Hellblade title, even though it looks similar. The studio head, Dom Matthews, explained it’s because they’re really going for a full-on action-adventure experience this time. Basically, that means we’ll have a lot more control over what happens and a ton more gameplay to dive into. It sounds like they’re letting us really play the game, not just watch a story unfold.
The main story of Senua follows the main character as she battles enemies to reach the afterlife and find the loved ones she’s lost. The developers at Ninja Theory have also mentioned that the gameplay shown in the trailer is from a very early version of the game and will be much smoother and refined when it’s finally released.
Senua is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, with a planned release in 2027.
