I’m so excited! Hiro Mashima, the creator of Fairy Tail, is starting a brand new series! We’ve just gotten our first glimpse of what’s to come, and it’s arriving this summer. Fairy Tail is a massive action franchise – it originally launched in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine back in 2006, and since then, it’s exploded with a sequel, tons of spin-offs, multiple anime seasons, and movies. And now, after two decades, we’re getting something completely fresh!
The popular manga series Fairy Tail is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a variety of events throughout the year. Excitingly, the original creator, Hiro Mashima, is returning to write a new continuation of the story, officially titled Fairy Tail Re:FANTASIA. You can see the new logo below.
Fairy Tail Revival Reveals Title and First Look

A new story called Fairy Tail Re:FANTASIA will begin in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine on July 29th. While details are still limited, this will be the first Fairy Tail story fully written and illustrated by Hiro Mashima since the original series ended almost ten years ago. Mashima is currently involved in writing the sequel, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest, but that series has a different artist. Re:FANTASIA marks Mashima’s full return to creating both the story and artwork for Fairy Tail.
Originally planned for release in late August, Fairy Tail Re:FANTASIA is now coming out in July thanks to the author, Mashima, working faster than anticipated. However, this revival won’t be as extensive as some fans might expect, as it was always intended to be a shorter series than the original.
What to Know for Fairy Tail Re:FANTASIA Revival

Kodansha announced that Fairy Tail Re:FANTASIA would be a short, limited-time series, probably lasting only a few weeks. Since Hiro Mashima’s other current series, Dead Rock, is taking a break until later this year, the revival will likely end before then. This means fans can expect Re:FANTASIA to run for a couple of weeks to a couple of months, fitting into Mashima’s schedule. So, it’s best to enjoy it while it’s available!
Currently, Fairy Tail Re:FANTASIA hasn’t announced plans to release outside of Japan. However, fans are hoping it won’t be long before people around the world can experience this new series and see how it differs from the ongoing Fairy Tail sequel.
