Tom Holland returns as Spider-Man in the new movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is expected to be a major hit. This film kicks off a new three-movie storyline for the character and also serves as the last Spider-Man movie before the big Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars films conclude the current saga. After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker is starting over, facing the challenges of being an adult and a hero without his friends or the Avengers’ help. The movie is particularly ambitious, boasting the biggest cast ever seen in a Spider-Man film, with many villains and allies appearing – contributing to its longer running time.
AMC has announced that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is 2 hours and 30 minutes long, making it the longest movie in the Spider-Man series. It’s just two minutes longer than Spider-Man: No Way Home, which ran for 2 hours and 28 minutes. The other films starring Tom Holland as Spider-Man are significantly shorter: Homecoming was 2 hours and 13 minutes, and Far From Home was 2 hours and 9 minutes. Even the older Spider-Man movies don’t compare – Spider-Man 3 was 2 hours and 19 minutes, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 lasted 2 hours and 22 minutes. Looking at the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Brand New Day‘s runtime puts it in fourth place, after Avengers: Endgame (3 hours and 2 minutes), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2 hours and 41 minutes), and Eternals (2 hours and 37 minutes). That’s a long runtime for a single superhero movie!
Brand New Day Needs the Extra Time Given Its Extensive Cast

The unusually long runtime of the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day – at 150 minutes – is likely due to the large number of characters and interwoven plotlines. The film needs to re-establish Peter Parker’s life after he removed his identity from public knowledge, showing how he’s now living in isolation. It will feature a lot of villains, including the return of Mac Gargan (Michael Mando) and the first live-action appearance of Tombstone (Marvin Jones III), alongside the shadowy organization known as the Hand. The story will also introduce major Marvel characters like the Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal, and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). Sadie Sink is joining the cast in a mysterious role, and many fans believe she’ll be playing a mutant character, with Jan Grey being the most popular guess.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton not only has a large cast to manage, but also a longer movie runtime to dedicate to the hero’s transformation – both in personality and physically. The story confirms that being a full-time vigilante causes Peter to change, and this plotline draws from the comic book arc “The Other,” which requires careful development to showcase the frightening nature of his growing powers. The film has a big job: to reshape the more grounded side of the Marvel universe and prepare for a massive, upcoming multiversal conflict, meaning every moment of its length is important.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 31st.
