Gothic 1 Remake Aleph Location — Ulbert’s Storage Shed Guide

In Gothic 1 Remake, the quest ‘Ulbert’s Storage Shed’ tasks players with finding Aleph and getting the key to a chest Ulbert protects in the Old Mine. The most challenging parts are tracking down Aleph and deciding how much to pay him. Interestingly, if you give Aleph 50 gold nuggets instead of the required 30, you’ll also receive a Ring of Power as a bonus.

As a big fan of Gothic 1 Remake, I’m excited to share how to get started with Ulbert’s Storage Shed! This walkthrough will cover everything you need to know – finding Aleph, figuring out how much to pay him to unlock the shed, and a peek at what treasures are hidden inside those chests. It’s a really useful spot once you get access, so let me walk you through it.

How to Start Ulbert’s Storage Shed in Gothic 1 Remake

Before starting the Ulbert’s Storage Shed quest, be sure to have some wine or beer with you. You’ll need it to get information from Ulbert. You can find alcohol near carts and crates on the roads, or you can buy it from Dexter, who usually hangs out near the well in Old Camp.

After getting some wine or beer, head to the Old Mine, which is northwest of the Old Camp. The simplest way to find it is to buy a Colony Map from Graham in the Old Camp and follow the location marked on the map. You can learn more about maps in our guide: How to Get a Map in Gothic 1 Remake.

It’s best to pick up the “Test of Faith” quest from Diego in the Old Camp before going to the Old Mine. This quest involves talking to Ian, who you’ll find there. Once you start the quest, Graham can also mark the Old Mine’s location on your map, but he’ll ask for some ore in return.

To get to the Old Mine without a map, leave the Old Camp through the north gate and cross the bridge. Then, follow the road as it curves to the left. Be careful – you’ll run into Wolves, but you should be able to handle them if you followed our Best Start guide.

When you get to the Old Mine, head down the wooden walkways. You’ll come to a ladder, and at the bottom you’ll see Ulbert near a shed. Chat with him and give him a drink to begin the Ulbert’s Storage Shed quest – your first task is to find Aleph.

Where to Find Aleph in Gothic 1 Remake

Aleph is not far from Ulbert. Follow these steps to reach him:

  1. Climb the ladder you descended to reach Ulbert.
  2. Follow the wooden plank path upward until you reach a fork.
  3. Go left at the fork, and follow the path past a ladder that leads up to the area with Santino.
  4. Climb the ladder at the end of the path, and head downward until you reach the miners.
  5. Look for a tall wooden structure in this area. Aleph is sitting next to it.

Aleph will automatically initiate a conversation when you approach him.

How Much Should You Pay Aleph?

If you ask Aleph about the key, he’ll tell you he’ll trade information for ore. Now you need to decide how many ore nuggets to give him, and here’s what will happen depending on your choice:

  • Give 15 nuggets: Aleph says his memory is foggy, and you must pick again.
  • Give 30 nuggets: Aleph gives you the chest key.
  • Give 50 nuggets: Aleph gives you the chest key and a Ring of Power.

Okay, so if you can swing it, I highly recommend giving Aleph 50 nuggets. Yes, 30 nuggets will get you the chest key and let you finish Ulbert’s Storage Shed, but 50 gets you that key and the Ring of Power – it’s totally worth it if you have the ore! What Does the Ring of Power Do?

Wearing the Ring of Power increases your Strength by 5, which is a great help in close-up fighting. It’s particularly useful when you’re first starting the game, and the 20 extra nuggets Aleph requests is a reasonable trade for the benefit.

How to Get Ulbert Away From the Shed

Once you’ve obtained the key from Aleph, go back to Ulbert and let him know Ian sent you. This finishes the Ulbert’s Storage Shed quest, allowing you to open and take items from the chest inside.

Save your game quickly before opening the chest, so you can easily reload if something unexpected happens while you take what’s inside.

What’s Inside Ulbert’s Storage Shed?

You’ll find the following items inside the chest Ulbert was guarding:

  • 5x Torch
  • 2x Iron
  • 2x Light Scroll

There’s actually another chest you can unlock with the key, and it’s located right behind the shed. To find it, go around the right side of the shed, and open the chest to get these items:

  • 1x Gold
  • 3x Ham
  • 3x Bread
  • 4x Beer
  • 7x Apple
