NetEase Games and 24 Entertainment recently revealed their new single-player action-adventure game, Blood Message, and have now released a detailed gameplay walkthrough. The nearly 20-minute video shows off the game, captured from an early version of the software, and can be viewed below.
The Blood Message gameplay demo blends narrative scenes with actual gameplay. It opens with Pei Changguan and Arrtai exploring what looks like an abandoned shop. As they investigate, the game’s impressive graphics become clear, particularly noticeable when Pei Changguan examines an intricately detailed, embroidered cloth.
The story quickly gains momentum as the characters race through buildings, pursuing a suspect. Soon, Pei is unexpectedly attacked by a soldier, leading to the first real action sequence. Although it starts with a simple timed event, the fight quickly evolves into fast-paced sword combat, where Pei must defend himself and protect Arrtai.
Details about the combat are still emerging, but Pei appears to be a flexible fighter. He can seamlessly switch between sword attacks and hand-to-hand combat within the same combo. He also cleverly uses his surroundings to defeat enemies – for example, he once drowned an attacker using a nearby tub of water.
To avoid further confrontations, the characters begin investigating secretly. This reveals that Blood Message will include a stealth mechanic, allowing players to silently approach and eliminate enemy soldiers without alerting others.
After a slow start, Blood Message picks up the pace, putting you back in the thick of the action as Arrtai. You’ll be able to fight on your own this time, without needing to be rescued. The game’s combat seems to focus on timing your defenses – parrying enemy attacks – while also launching your own quick strikes.
NetEase has revealed that the game will feature both light and heavy attacks, as well as several ways to defend yourself, including dodging, blocking, parrying, and countering. Players will also be able to quickly finish off defeated enemies with a special execution move, removing them from the fight.
The video ends with Pei discovering the person he’s been following has moved on. He then decides to gather his weapons and equipment and begin his own adventure.
The game Blood Message was first announced in June 2025. A new trailer released this weekend offered a first look at the game’s story, which centers around a large-scale journey eastward.
