The original Football Manager is coming back on Steam: “Say goodbye to your family”

Due to the surprising termination of Football Manager 2025, enthusiasts of the game are eagerly seeking a new Football Manager adventure.

As a passionate gamer, I find myself immersed in my Football Manager 24 challenges, constantly tweaking save files and refreshing databases. The anticipation for any new tidbits about Football Manager 26 is like an endless countdown, making the days feel interminable.

Fortunately, we won’t have to wait much longer; a new Football Manager game will soon be available on Steam within the next few weeks – and let me clarify, not the same one you might be thinking of.

Kevin Toms Football Star Manager is a faithful remake of the original 1982 Football Manager game.

Back in the day, I got my hands on a classic gem called “Football Manager” – the very first simulation game that revolutionized the football management scene. This legendary title made its way onto ZX Spectrum systems more than four decades back. And yes, it was none other than Kevin Toms who masterfully crafted this timeless experience.

This game became extremely popular, managing to sell over half a million units within its initial six years. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to suggest that without this specific game, the expansive Football Manager series as we fondly recognize it today might never have been developed.

Nine years following Kevin Toms’ return to the Football Star Manager series, the PC version was released, marking a significant milestone. Earlier, he had revamped the original game for mobile devices, which garnered overwhelmingly positive feedback. On both the App Store and Google Play Store, it received an impressive 4.5-star rating.

In a playful trailer unveiling the PC version, Tom suggests bidding farewell to your loved ones as you gear up to experience the “one and only, the ultimate, the finest Football Star Manager arriving this year!

Additionally, he playfully mentions the demanding PC requirements needed for recent Football Manager games, pointing out that this version was constructed “without a single feature typical of modern gaming, so disregard your graphic card.

Although it’s not likely to overtake the widely popular Football Manager games by Sports Interactive, it could serve as an enjoyable temporary solution for players until updates about FM26 are released.

Due to the scrapping of FM25 earlier this year, updates about FM26 have been scarce, but based on Sega’s financial statements and as reported by YouTube channel FM Console, it seems that the game is still planned for release in 2025.

Kevin Toms isn’t the only developer looking to challenge the football management status quo too.

Sega plans to introduce its iconic SakaTsuku series, Sega Football Club Champions, in the western world for just the second occasion since its debut. However, no specific launch date has been announced as of now.
