Hunger Games’ Katniss Everdeen gets a new face in form of football legend’s daughter

The Hunger Games stage show has announced its tribute just three months ahead of its London debut.

Mia Carragher, daughter of renowned English footballer Jamie Carragher, will portray the iconic character Katniss Everdeen in the initial live stage version of the popular franchise.

The upcoming stage performance will mark the first theater appearance for the young actress, who has been cast as the cherished character previously portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence in a popular four-part movie saga.

Carragher has previously worked on projects like the independent film “One Night in Istanbul” and “The Gathering” for Channel 4. Additionally, you can expect to see her in the upcoming Playground Entertainment series titled “Maigret.

In the announcement, she expressed her delight and gratitude for being cast as Katniss. It’s a long-cherished role, and she can hardly contain her excitement to witness this project unfold.

As a devoted admirer of The Hunger Games movies, I’m incredibly fortunate to find myself immersed within this extraordinary universe – particularly collaborating with Matthew Dunster and a remarkable group of creatives.

Simultaneously, the creator of 2:22 – A Ghost Story, Director Dunster, stated: “We scoured near and far, meticulously, to find our Katniss.

It’s quite challenging to immerse oneself in Suzanne Collins’ captivating world, but one actor managed to embody both the charm and battle prowess of Katniss Everdeen – her silent resilience, grit, and ingeniousness, as well as her agility, wit, and humor.

“We’ve found our Katniss in Mia Carragher, and we can’t wait for audiences to see her.”

The forthcoming performance will take place at the custom-made Troubadour Theatre in Canary Wharf, specifically crafted to include special effects and daring stunts.

Based on previews, it appears that the show is set up uniquely in a circular stage layout, emphasizing acrobatic techniques like wire-work and live combat scenes as its main attractions.

While details about the rest of the actors are still unclear, the creative crew comprises Miriam Buether as set designer, Moi Tran handling costumes, Charlotte Broom taking charge of choreography, Lucy Carter for lighting design, Ian Dickinson from Autograph handling sound, Tal Rosner working on video, Kev McCurdy managing fight scenes, John Maddox from Suspended Illusions responsible for flying performers, Amy Ball as casting director, and Gary Beestone serving as production manager.

In case you’ve forgotten, the narrative unfolds in the bleak future society of Panem, composed of twelve districts. Each year, these districts are compelled to provide two representatives – or tributes – who participate in a lethal competition called The Hunger Games.

The trilogy of books written by Suzanne Collins was initially published in 2008, and since then, it has led to the production of five movies, with another one set to be released next year.

In the upcoming instalment, we’ll see a screen portrayal of the prequel titled “Sunrise on the Reaping,” which delves into the tale of Katniss’s mentor, Haymitch Abernathy.

The Hunger Games stage show will hit the London stage this October and tickets are on sale now.
