Twenty-five years ago, Marvel created the Mangaverse, a unique take on its classic characters like Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Storm, inspired by Japanese manga. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Marvel is revisiting the Mangaverse with five new standalone stories, featuring popular heroes from the Spider-Man, X-Men, Avengers, and other iconic teams.
Throughout September, Marvel will release five standalone comics that reimagine its Mangaverse. The series begins with Marvel Mangaverse: Web of Blood #1 and concludes with Marvel Mangaverse: Web of Destiny #1. In between, readers can enjoy Iron Knight, Arcane Avengers, and Ghostlocke. These stories present the Mangaverse as if it had been consistently published for the last two decades. Check out previews of the comics and their covers below.
Marvel’s Mangaverse Return Will Feature The Debut of The Arcane Avengers, Ghostlocke, and More

The one-shot stories will begin with Web of Blood #1, written by Joe and Jack Kelly and illustrated by Kenny Ruiz. This story will team up Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Weapon X-Tremis (Laura Kinney), and Legion (Illyana Rasputin) as they work to prevent a predicted apocalypse caused by the return of the Phoenix. These are just some of the characters expected to appear.
Joe and Jack Kelly, both huge fans of manga and anime, always dreamed of a project like this. Jack explained that he and his father regularly spend hours discussing their favorite comics and manga, making the opportunity to work with Marvel a real honor.
Joe explained that he immediately agreed to work on the Mangaverse project when Lauren and Mark approached him, especially because he’d be co-writing with Jack. He described the project as a tribute to manga and anime, realized through the Marvel Mangaverse and beautifully illustrated by artist Kenny Ruiz.
“My job is to live up to what Joe and Jack Kelly and Yuji Kaku Sensei have created, like a poor shonen hero clearly overwhelmed by the challenge,” Ruiz said. “But if you live and breathe manga like I do, you know what to do in those situations: grit your teeth, sacrifice everything, and give it your all. I can’t tell you anything yet, but I can’t stop drawing. This new era of the Mangaverse is demanding everything we have to give—and damn it, we’re not backing down.”
Marvel Mangaverse: Web of Blood #1

Get ready to revisit the Mangaverse… just as it faces total destruction! It’s been 25 years since we last explored this world, and now, in Marvel Mangaverse: Web of Blood #1, we find a place where technology has failed and magic rules. A huge disaster is coming, threatening to engulf everything in flames. Can Miles Morales, Laura Kinney, and Illyana Rasputin stop it? As they try to save the world, they’re forced to use dangerous magic, and old friendships turn into rivalries. They’ll have to ask themselves: will their actions actually save everyone, or will they accidentally destroy everything instead?
Marvel Mangaverse: Iron Knight #1

In the upcoming story, Marvel Mangaverse: Iron Knight #1, writer Cody Ziglar and artist Kei Zama team up to follow Riri Williams, also known as Ironheart, as she navigates a quest for revenge in the city of New Chicago. Following a personal loss, Riri joins forces with the mystical hero Moon Knight in this action-packed, shonen-style one-shot, hitting shelves on September 9.
Marvel Mangaverse: Arcane Avengers #1

A new one-shot comic from writer Ashley Allen (known for Magik & Colossus) and artist Mirka Andolfo (Ms. Marvel) introduces the Arcane Avengers. This unlikely team of sorcerers is led by Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, and tasked with defeating and imprisoning demonic creatures called yokai. Cursed to fight alongside Bloodline and Wiccan, Bucky hopes to break free from his own control. When a surge of yokai threatens to overwhelm them, Bucky begins planning his escape, but his plans are complicated by the unexpected return of his childhood friend, Hawkeye. Marvel Mangaverse: Arcane Avengers #1 arrives in stores on September 16.
Marvel Mangaverse: Ghostlocke #1

The streets are filled with victims as Carnage, whose real name is Cletus Kasady, unleashes a brutal attack on both humans and supernatural creatures. In Marvel Mangaverse: Ghostlocke #1, Ghostlocke (Kwannon) and her spirit-powered motorcycle will attempt to stop Carnage’s destructive plans. The comic, written by Alyssa Wong (known for her work on Deadpool) and illustrated by Michael YG (Iron Fist), will be available on September 23.
Marvel Mangaverse: Web of Destiny #1

The epic 25th Anniversary Mangaverse event reaches a thrilling climax in Marvel Mangaverse: Web of Destiny #1! Joe and Jack Kelly, along with artist Kenny Ruiz, bring Miles, Laura, and Illyana together as the world faces its end. Can these old friends overcome their conflicts and save everyone before it’s too late? The five-week event concludes dramatically on September 30th.
