Onimusha: Way of the Sword Demo Hits 1 Million Downloads, as Producer Addresses Difficulty Concerns

Okay, so I’m super excited because Onimusha: Way of the Sword finally has a release date! And get this – it’s even coming to the new Nintendo Switch 2! Capcom is really killing it this year. The best part? They just dropped a free demo on everything, so I got to try out the combat and see how it runs. It’s a good first look at the beginning of the game.

The app has been downloaded over a million times in just a few days, which is a great start. However, a lot of users are saying the biggest issue isn’t that it’s difficult, but surprisingly, that it feels too easy.

In a recent Twitter video, producer Akihito Kadowaki explained why the game demo felt easy for some players. He clarified that the demo only represents the beginning of the game. Additionally, the team deliberately gave players access to powerful skills early on so they could experience a wide range of Musashi’s abilities, which may have made the demo less challenging than intended.

This game is kind of the opposite of Monster Hunter – the demos often give players weaker equipment and throw difficult challenges at them. While the Way of the Sword demo might be a bit different, players can still expect a tough experience when the full game comes out.

You can expect harder battles in the final game, both from the bosses and the regular enemies. We hope you’re ready for the challenge!

Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches on September 25th for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The demo offers two difficulty levels – Story and Action – leaving fans to speculate if the notoriously challenging Hell Mode, where one hit is fatal, will be included in the full game. Hopefully, this feature will compensate for the absence of characters from earlier Onimusha titles. We’ll share more details and gameplay footage as it becomes available.
