X-Men Actor Tyler Mane Shares Rare Male Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Tyler Mane is sharing a glimpse inside his private health battle. 

Tyler Mane, known for playing Sabretooth in the 2000 X-Men movie and recently appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), has announced he has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

In a video posted on Instagram on June 8th, Mane revealed he has a very rare form of cancer: breast cancer, which affects only about 1% of men.

Male breast cancer is an uncommon disease where cells grow abnormally in a man’s breast tissue, as stated by the Mayo Clinic.

The actor, known for his role in Troy, admitted his initial instinct was to hide his diagnosis. He and his wife, Renae Geerlings, have been married since 2007. He explained he felt embarrassed by the condition, as it’s relatively uncommon in men.

He explained that men often receive a diagnosis at a later stage of the disease because it’s not openly discussed or actively checked for. He shared that his own doctors initially dismissed his concerns, and it was only due to his wife’s insistence that he had a lump removed and received an early diagnosis.

He urged everyone to start discussing men’s breast cancer, noting that about 1 in 755 men will be diagnosed with the disease during their lives. He emphasized that early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes, stating, “It’s time to pay attention!”

Daryl Karolat, known as Mane, recently revealed he’s receiving chemotherapy for an illness. He followed up the next day with an update on how the treatment is going.

He joked in a June 9th Instagram video that his estrogen blockers weren’t working as well as he’d hoped. He also shared that the overwhelming support he’s received has brought him to tears – in a good way.

Just wanted to give a quick update on day two of chemo! I’m seriously blown away by all the love and support everyone’s been sending – it means the world to me. Honestly, I feel really determined and I’m going to fight this cancer with everything I’ve got. I’m ready to beat it!

He continued, thanking everyone for their support. He emphasized the importance of raising awareness, saying, “Cancer is awful, but early detection gives you a real chance to beat it.”
