LeBron James is going on defense when it comes to his children.

As a huge fan, I was so glad to see LeBron defend his son, Bronny, against all the talk about him only getting opportunities because of who his dad is. It’s frustrating to see people dismiss Bronny’s hard work and talent, suggesting he’s succeeding solely because of nepotism. LeBron really shut down those claims, and it was great to see!

LeBron James told Time magazine that the young athlete has rightfully earned his place as a professional. He also defended his family and team, stating they won’t tolerate criticism or attacks.

The NBA champion—who shares Bronny, 21, along with son Bryce, 18, and daughter Zhuri, 11, with wife Savannah James—continued to double down on fiercely defending his family.

He made it clear he wouldn’t tolerate criticism of his parenting. He explained that his experiences growing up, and what he lacked, motivated everything he’s built, and he wouldn’t allow anyone to attack his role as a father. He didn’t care what people said about his child’s basketball career, but any negative comments about his fatherhood were off-limits.

And while LeBron, 41, has won four NBA championships over the course of his 22 years in the league so far, none of the accolades compare to being able to play alongside Bronny, who recently completed his second season with the Lakers.

LeBron said that, looking back on his entire basketball career, becoming the league’s all-time leading scorer was his greatest achievement.

Bronny (born LeBron Raymone James Jr.) joined the NBA after he was selected by the Lakers in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft, less than a year after he suffered cardiac arrest during a basketball practice at USC. He made his NBA regular-season debut in October 2024 alongside his father, with the pair making history as the first father-son duo in the league’s history. 

I’ve been following Bronny’s journey closely, and while there’s been a lot of talk about his potential in the NBA, it’s easy to forget he and LeBron haven’t actually shared the court together much. He’s only played 69 games for the Lakers so far, and a lot of his time has been spent honing his skills with their G League team – really focusing on development before getting major minutes.

Last season included a truly historic moment for LeBron James and his son, Bronny. In April, they made NBA playoff history as the first father-son duo to play in a game together.

LeBron clearly recognized the significance of the moment, remembering how he’d once said he wanted to play with his oldest son.

After the Lakers defeated the Houston Rockets, LeBron James reflected on a remarkable year. He said, ‘So many unexpected things have happened this year.’ He highlighted playing in a playoff game alongside his son as the most memorable and unbelievable moment of his career, according to ESPN.

LeBron James is defending his son, Bronny, against accusations of receiving special treatment, and Bronny understands the scrutiny that comes with having a famous name and the potential for criticism throughout his basketball career.

Bronny James said that his initial reaction to talk about him benefiting from his father’s fame was to ignore it and focus on his work, trying to stay positive. The actress, who was twenty years old at the time, explained to PopEater in 2011 that many people assume she benefited from nepotism, which she finds frustrating. She argues that it’s not true, pointing out she’s auditioned for countless roles and hasn’t always been cast. She added that while someone might be able to help you land one job, they can’t guarantee a career full of opportunities.

Goldie Hawn‘s daughter doesn’t bother to get the knives out when talk turns to nepotism.

Kate, who was raised alongside Kurt Russell, Goldie Hawn’s partner, told The Independent in December 2022 that she wasn’t bothered by how people labeled her family. “We’re a family of storytellers – it’s just who we are,” she explained. “Whatever people call us won’t change that.”

Acknowledging that Hollywood isn’t always fair, the actor from Meet the Parents explained that people without talent usually don’t succeed in the long run, even if they get an initial opportunity through connections or family ties.

Ben shared his opinion right away, but in February 2023, he still became part of the online conversation when Steve Martin jokingly labeled him a “nepo baby” in a preview for their Super Bowl commercials with Pepsi.

The former host of The Talk will always support his twin daughters, Charlie and Dolly, and his wife, Rebecca Romijn. He’s also preparing the girls for potential criticism they might encounter in the future.

Now 31, Jack decided long ago there was no point trying to hide his parentage.
