The Elder Scrolls 6 is “Coming Along Well,” Says XBOX CCO Who Promises A Reveal “At The Right Time”

This year’s Xbox Games Showcase turned out quite strong, from reveals for State of Decay 3 and Gears of War: E-Day to shocking announcements like the return of console exclusives. However, as with every year, the absence of The Elder Scrolls 6 could be felt. Announced in 2018 with a teaser trailer, it’s been eight years with no release window, gameplay or indication of another reveal.

Variety asked Matt Booty, head of content at Xbox, how he manages the challenge of building hype for games while also needing to keep some surprises for the official reveal. Booty explained that a big part of his job is finding the right balance between sharing exciting work with the public and waiting for the perfect time to do so.

“And when you decide to show it, you want it to be the best you’ve got. And also that when you show the game, you’re also giving them a promise of, hey, it’s coming soon. So I can tell you, having visited Bethesda and sat with Todd and seen ‘Elder Scrolls‘ playing, it looks amazing, and it’s coming along well. And we’ll make sure to announce it and really reveal it at the right time.”

Bethesda is building The Elder Scrolls 6 using a new version of their game engine, Creation Engine 3. According to director Todd Howard, most of the company is currently focused on the game and development is going smoothly. However, there’s still no word on when we might see the game revealed, and Howard has even jokingly suggested it might have been better to not announce it yet.

While the release of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered was initially welcomed, fans have been disappointed by the lack of updates and ongoing problems with the game. Rumors suggest remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are planned, but they likely won’t be available for quite some time.

Right now, all we can do is wait for Bethesda to make an announcement and hope for the best.
