Square Enix recently removed four games from sale with no prior notice, and they will eventually become permanently unplayable. While it’s becoming increasingly common for games to be removed from stores in 2026 – happening almost daily – developers usually announce these removals beforehand, giving players a chance to buy them. This recent situation is a rare example of an unexpected and immediate removal.
Square Enix has removed four Kingdom Hearts games from the Nintendo Switch eShop: Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind (with DLC), and Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece. If you haven’t already purchased these games, they are no longer available. If you own them, you’ll have until around this time next year to play, as they are cloud-based games and will stop working when the servers are shut down on June 9, 2027.
New Versions You Will Have to Buy Again
Square Enix is bringing the Kingdom Hearts series to Nintendo fans again, but it will require a repurchase. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX and Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] are launching on October 8th. While owners of the Nintendo Switch cloud versions of these games will receive a 50% discount, they’ll need to buy the new versions to continue playing after June 9, 2027. Importantly, these releases won’t be available on the original Nintendo Switch – a Nintendo Switch 2 will be required.
“We sincerely apologize to our valued customers for this sudden announcement,” said Square Enix of the news, and not much else.
