Alana Haim Shares What Taylor Swift Texted Her to Request Knicks Tees

When her BFF Taylor Swift put in a request for a punny T-shirt, Alana Haim was ready for it.

After Taylor Swift and her friends became a social media sensation for wearing coordinated, custom New York Knicks shirts at the NBA Finals on June 10th, the designer behind the shirts, Alana, explained the inspiration behind the unique look.

In a recent interview with Vogue, she shared a text she received from Taylor Swift that was a dream come true for her as a screen printer. The text simply said, ‘I want to wear this shirt to the game, can you make it for me?’ She responded that she’d been waiting for that request, calling it a dream come true.

I usually begin conversations with friends by suggesting we discuss puns and sizing,” she explained. “Taylor immediately responded with ‘Stevie Nicks’.

Taylor Swift showed her support for both the New York Knicks and Stevie Nicks at the game. She wore a blue shirt with the playful phrase “Stevie Knicks” written on it in orange letters, cleverly combining the singer’s name with the team. Grammy-winning artist Stevie Nicks even coordinated outfits with actress Mariska Hargitay for the event.

Alana Haim and her sister, Este, joined in the fun by wearing matching shirts with playful twists. Este’s said “Knickleback” while Alana’s read “Knickole Kidman.” Their sister, Danielle Haim, was also at the game, sporting a custom Knicks shirt that said “Knickolas Cage,” according to Vogue.

Alana explained they were playfully tossing around puns. They were just really excited about going to the game and wanted to have fun, so they printed the puns on shirts for everyone to wear, hoping it would make people smile.

Even though her friend Taylor is a billionaire, Alana bought the blue t-shirts at Michael’s craft store for just $2.99 each. She then used orange puff ink to add the lettering, according to a report in Vogue.

And as for how Mariska got a matching tee? 

I always make sure to have extra shirts with me, and Taylor really wanted to as well, so we could share them with our friends,” Alana explained. “Mariska was totally on board, and she’s just a wonderful person. I’m a huge fan of hers, so it was incredible when she asked to wear one of my designs.

According to the actress from Licorice Pizza, that memorable courtside outfit “brought everyone closer.”

She said she’d never hugged anyone tighter than she hugged Mariska at the game. It was a fantastic match, and she was glad they’d thought to bring extra hugs to share.

Alana, who is 30 years old and grew up in Los Angeles with her sisters, was excited to support the New York Knicks with her friends as they achieved a fantastic victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

Honestly, this season has been absolutely amazing to watch! It’s been a real privilege being a fan and cheering them on. That last game? I truly believe it was one of the greatest basketball games of all time. I’m really hoping they win the championship – they’re just such an incredible team, and it was so cool to see them notice all our fan shirts! It meant a lot.

Players weren’t the only ones to see the shirts – Nicole Kidman herself responded to the one Este Haim wore that said “Knickole Kidman.”

She showed her support for Este and Taylor, posting on her Instagram Stories on June 10th with a video of them at the game and writing, “Right there with you girls!”
