Klei Entertainment, the studio behind the popular Don’t Starve series, first launched its debut game back in 2007 as an exclusive title for the Xbox 360. The game remained exclusive to that platform, and it’s now available on Steam for the first time in over a decade. From now until June 15th, you can download it for free!
I was so excited to hear that Klei Entertainment, who first launched as a studio back in 2006 with a cute puzzle game called Eets, is bringing it back! It originally came to Xbox 360 a year later, but you can’t buy it there anymore, and it’s been missing from Steam since 2015. But now it’s back on Steam! You can grab it for $10, which is awesome, but even better, it’s totally free until June 15th, so if you want to check out a bit of gaming history, now’s the time!
Mid 2000s Hidden Gem
When Eets first came out, it received a respectable score of 81 on Metacritic. However, because it was initially a small, PC-only game and later released on Xbox Live Arcade, it didn’t gain much widespread attention. For those unfamiliar with it, Eets is a puzzle game very much like Lemmings, where you guide a character through a series of on-screen puzzles—over 100, in fact. It’s a game designed for dedicated puzzle fans, meaning the challenges can be quite difficult, and may prove frustrating for more casual players.
To celebrate our 20th anniversary and ensure everyone can still enjoy the game, we’ve updated it to work again and are releasing it as a free download. We’re incredibly grateful for the support you’ve all given us over the years, and we hope you have fun revisiting this classic Klei title. If you’re a Steam Deck user and curious about this new free game on Steam, be aware that its compatibility hasn’t been tested yet. Since it’s just been re-released on Steam after more than ten years as a free download, it likely doesn’t have much, if any, dedicated Steam Deck support.
