2025 saw several significant updates to Minecraft, and there’s still one more on the horizon before the year ends. This upcoming update is centered around a metal that everyone seems to dislike, namely copper.
In essence, our aim with Game Drop is to transform copper from being disliked into something more beneficial. We’ve already brainstormed some new mechanics and features that will be part of this update. With the recent Minecraft Preview build, we’ve learned about an additional feature that will be introduced in this unnamed release.
Often, I wouldn’t devote an entire piece to a minor innovation being tested by the Minecraft community, but having recently completed The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered after investing over 100 hours into this cherished RPG, it seems fitting that the introduction of new horse armor in Minecraft catches my attention slightly.
Let’s delve into the new tests conducted by Mojang Studios today, and in the meantime, I’ll provide a summary of the upcoming Game Drop details that have been disclosed so far.
Yay, horse armor!
For a while now, Minecraft has featured horses and horse armor, yet the choices available have been rather scant, and it seems that many players tend to overlook these equine additions. However, this new addition may not sway opinions significantly, truth be told.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that Mojang Studios is aligning with the upcoming Game Drop by introducing copper horse armor in our beloved game! Although we can’t craft it ourselves just yet (a minor setback, but let’s remember the recent addition of craftable saddles), it’ll have an equal chance of appearing in lootable chests as iron horse armor. Plus, it boasts a protective value of 4!
Finding this update exciting is quite a laugh for me, and what tickles me even more is the screenshot Mojang Studios shared, which showcases an armored horse in the backdrop. That’s hilarious since the actual focus of the update isn’t the horse, but rather the rest of the changes.
Copper Golems, copper chests, copper tools, copper—
It’s expected that the upcoming Minecraft update will arrive towards the end of Summer or beginning of Autumn. This update is guaranteed to have a unified theme and the main attraction will be the return of the Copper Golem, one of the mob vote losers from a previous Minecraft Live event.
Instead of being merely cute and approachable, Copper Golems come with a few intriguing features. For instance, they offer a practical function for organizing your storage. They can autonomously pick up items from newly created copper chests and transfer them to nearby standard chests that already hold those specific items (or fill an empty chest if there’s no superior destination available).
Additionally, they undergo oxidation similar to other copper pieces, and can be crafted into ornamental sculptures (rest assured, they can be restored if needed).
This update is all about copper, and Copper Golems stand at the top.
Regarding copper, Mojang Studios is introducing a fresh collection of armor, weapons, and tools that serves as an appealing midpoint between stone and iron in the early stages of gameplay.
Ultimately, we will be installing updated shelving units. These new shelves are capable of holding up to three groups of items (similar to advanced item holders), but they also feature redstone compatibility – powering up to three shelves allows for the instantaneous swapping of your inventory with those items and back again in a matter of seconds. Essentially, it provides an efficient means of creating various equipment configurations.
It seems like we can now include horse armor on our growing list of items. I have a hunch that there won’t be any further updates with new features prior to its launch, but I’m hoping for an unexpected copper accessory that ties in with redstone mechanics.
