The hit animated series, South Park, is making another change in its streaming home, marking yet another significant shift in the distribution of this long-running sitcom. It’s important to note that the unusual production and licensing arrangements for South Park have led it to be fragmented across various streaming platforms. However, this era of dispersal seems to be nearing its end; creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have recently sealed a $1.5 billion deal, reportedly with conditions regarding where and in what format the show can be streamed online.
Starting August 5th, “South Park” will no longer be streamable on HBO Max or its add-on for Hulu. Instead, it will be centralized exclusively on Paramount+. This change will reunite both the main series and the specials that have been available only on Paramount+. The decision to move “South Park” to Paramount+ is thought to be one of the last steps before Paramount finalizes its merger deal with Skydance, which has been in progress for over a year. There were indications that the complex production, airing, and streaming agreements surrounding “South Park” had to be resolved, leading to a billion-dollar payment so that Paramount can fully own the show. However, new episodes of “South Park” will still premiere on Comedy Central, with them becoming available on Paramount+ the following day.
For the last five years, HBO Max has been the platform where fans could stream “South Park,” with the service providing access to all 26 seasons. Lately, Paramount+ joined the fray, offering all previous seasons of the show, in addition to HBO Max. However, it’s only Paramount+ that holds the rights for Season 27’s premiere, which has garnered significant attention and stirred up controversy – making it one of the biggest premieres in the series’ history.
In a swift and bold move, Parker and Stone immediately targeted the current presidential administration and Donald Trump personally, with the show’s latest episode. To escalate matters further, there was a scene where Jesus cautioned the citizens of South Park about potentially angering Paramount to such an extent that the show might be cancelled permanently. Despite this potential risk, South Park didn’t hesitate to push forward with its outrageous humor – even going so far as to feature an AI deepfake advertisement displaying Trump in the nude.
After the debut of Season 27, “South Park” has temporarily shifted its schedule, allowing its creators to adjust and reload their satirical arsenal, preparing to tackle their next cultural subject. At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Trey Parker and Matt Stone confessed that as late as this morning, they were still struggling to decide on the content for the upcoming episode. However, they managed to find a solution; as you can witness in the trailer below, Season 27, Episode 2 appears to be quite a spectacle. The character of Cartman transforming into Charlie Kirk is enough to tell you it’s going to be quite a ride.
00 PM Eastern Time. The following day, it will only be available for streaming exclusively on Paramount+.
