A 9-1-1 Crossover On The New Show? What The Nashville Showrunner Says

Okay, so I just finished watching the fall finale of 9-1-1: Nashville, titled “Good Southern Manors,” and wow – things definitely went down! If you haven’t seen it yet, be warned, I’m about to dive into some major plot points. You can stream it now with a Hulu subscription, but go in prepared for some twists and turns.

The first half of the new show 9-1-1: Nashville concluded with its season finale on ABC in 2025. The series began with exciting and dramatic events, including tornadoes and shocking family revelations. The latest episode continued the fast pace, but it was the ending that really caught viewers off guard. The finale included a link to the original 9-1-1 series, hinting at a possible future crossover event.

Okay, so the fall finale of 9-1-1: Nashville? Let’s just say it was…déjà vu. A hacker threw Nashville into chaos, triggering false tornado warnings and generally wreaking havoc on the city’s systems. And honestly, it felt exactly like a plotline we’ve seen before, not just on this show, but on the original 9-1-1. It was the same story, beat for beat. A little uninspired, if I’m being honest.

Rashad Raisani, the showrunner for the new Nashville series, told TV Insider that the hacking plotline is directly connected to the ransomware attack from Season 5 of 9-1-1. The original hackers were never apprehended, and Raisani says they’ve become even more sophisticated over the past three years, now targeting Nashville. Although this particular storyline won’t involve a crossover with 9-1-1, a different crossover is planned for the future.

Okay, so a lot of people are asking about a crossover event, and I want to be upfront – it’s not happening in this episode. I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up! But we do spend some time referencing our past adventures in L.A., including that wild hack and all the history we’ve built up there. We even show some old clips – seriously, remember when we put giraffes on Hollywood Boulevard? It’s that kind of fun, unexpected stuff! We’re definitely leaning into our own established world, but the big crossover? That’s still coming down the line, a little bit later on.

Viewers may remember a small connection between 9-1-1 and Nashville when Cammie, played by Kimberly Williams-Paisley, assisted with the spaceship Hen and Athena were stuck on. While a full crossover for 9-1-1: Nashville isn’t confirmed, the producers are exploring possibilities.

We’ve just begun initial discussions – literally starting yesterday – about the possibility of bringing characters from one of our 9-1-1 shows to Nashville for a crossover event. It’s not confirmed yet, but that’s the idea. We’re exploring the best storyline and hoping to build something that could lead to more collaborations between the casts in the future, making these events less unusual and more sustainable.

The event is still being planned, so it’s unclear whether it will be a large, two-hour special like the previous crossover with 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star, or a single episode. The show’s creator, Raisani, explained that the length will depend on what the story needs, which is logical. Filming is a bit challenging because the two shows are filmed in different states, but it’s definitely still possible. Oliver Stark even visited the Nashville set over the summer to film some promotional content, which was a nice preview.

Even though 9-1-1: Nashville has only finished the first part of its first season, there’s still hope for more. ABC has announced that both 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Nashville will be back on Thursdays, starting January 8th. It’s still unclear if the rest of Nashville‘s first season will include a crossover event, but fans can expect a worthwhile continuation.
