Sitcoms are consistently the most popular type of TV show. Shows like *Cheers*, *Friends*, *How I Met Your Mother*, and *Modern Family* have captured audiences with their memorable characters, influence on pop culture, and ability to be enjoyed again and again. While the 1990s were a particularly successful time for sitcoms, the 1970s also produced some excellent shows, and one of the best from that decade is now available to watch for free.
Tubi added classic TV shows and movies to its free streaming service in October, including several seasons of *The Jeffersons*. Created by television icon Norman Lear as a spin-off of *All in the Family*, the show follows an African-American couple as they move into a fancy apartment building in Manhattan. It originally aired for 11 seasons, from 1975 to 1985, but Tubi currently only has Seasons 2 and 3 available. While you can find some seasons on Pluto TV and Philo, you’ll need to rent or buy the complete series to watch everything.
The Jeffersons Remains a Groundbreaking Sitcom Classic

The Jeffersons remains a classic television show, and it’s easy to see why. It was a pioneer, being one of the first shows to depict a successful Black family and to include an interracial couple, which helped open doors for later sitcoms like The Cosby Show and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The show cleverly used the familiar sitcom style to tackle important and often difficult topics – like racism, class differences, alcoholism, gun control, and mental health – making them approachable through humor and characters viewers could connect with.
The Jeffersons was a groundbreaking show that dealt with important social issues while remaining relatable and entertaining. Isabel Sanford and Sherman Hemsley were fantastic as George and Louise, with their clashing personalities and playful arguments creating both laughs and touching moments. Supporting characters like the quirky neighbor Harry Bentley and the outspoken maid Florence Johnston added to the show’s charm. Featuring the famous theme song “Movin’ on Up,” The Jeffersons is considered one of Norman Lear’s greatest achievements, alongside other popular series like One Day at a Time and The Facts of Life.
New Titles on Tubi
Tubi added Seasons 2 and 3 of *The Jeffersons* to its streaming library in October, along with many other new shows. Viewers can also stream classic TV series like *The Munsters*, *Six*, and the original *The Twilight Zone* from 1959, plus all six seasons of the award-winning drama *This Is Us*.
October continued the trend of adding lots of free movies to the streaming service, including popular titles like *A League of Their Own*, *The Day After Tomorrow*, *Interview with a Vampire*, and *Legally Blonde*.
