The final episode of Stranger Things aired in 2026, concluding the popular Netflix series after years of following the characters’ adventures in the Upside Down. As expected, the fifth and final season was a massive hit, becoming one of Netflix’s most-watched original series with over 120 million views so far. However, it was ultimately surpassed by a popular Disney show that has quickly gained a dedicated following. Though the story in the Upside Down is over, another beloved series – featuring a blue dog and her family – is still going strong.
In 2024 and continuing into 2025, Bluey was the most-streamed TV series. A recent Nielsen report shows the Disney+ animated show reached over 45 billion minutes of viewing time, surpassing even popular Netflix titles. Stranger Things logged just over 39 billion minutes, while Grey’s Anatomy actually exceeded it with over 40 billion. With an animated spin-off planned for Stranger Things this year, it remains to be seen if the franchise can challenge Bluey‘s dominance in 2026.
Bluey’s Stranger Things
Even though the live-action version of Stranger Things has ended, the story isn’t over yet. Netflix has confirmed a new animated series, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, will be released later this year. While the original actors won’t be voicing their characters in the animated series, it will still be considered part of the official Stranger Things story. Plus, the creators, the Duffer Brothers, have hinted that even more Stranger Things content could be coming in the future.
Matt Duffer recently shared with Entertainment Weekly that they have a clear vision for the future of the Stranger Things universe. He explained they’re planning something unique, and intentionally different from how franchises like Game of Thrones or Star Wars have expanded. He couldn’t share details yet, but emphasized a specific approach to continuing the story.
There’s a lot more coming for Bluey, the popular show loved by kids and parents! Disney has confirmed a fourth season, and a full-length movie is planned for 2027 – the first time Bluey will appear on the big screen. Given how quickly the show has become a hit, it’s likely to continue for many years, which is great news for fans.
