Streaming services make it incredibly easy to watch lots of episodes of your favorite shows, both new and old. However, the shows and movies available on these platforms change regularly. While this keeps things fresh with new content, it also means some titles leave – and fans of one popular crime drama will soon find it’s no longer available on Netflix.
Netflix recently announced its January updates, and fans of Prison Break should take note: all five seasons will be removed from the streaming service on January 29th. That gives you just a few weeks to watch or re-watch the series starring Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller, and it’s definitely worth it!
Prison Break Was a Major Hit When It Originally Aired — And Has Done Well on Netflix, Too
Premiering in 2005, Prison Break followed brothers Lincoln Burrows and Michael Scofield. When Lincoln was wrongly convicted and sentenced to death, Michael devised a daring plan: he intentionally got himself arrested so he could use a complex escape strategy detailed in tattoos all over his body. The first season of the Fox series was a massive success, delivering the network’s highest ratings in almost ten years. Due to its popularity, the initial order of 13 episodes was increased to 22, and the show remained a hit throughout most of its run.
Okay, so the basic idea of the show was definitely out there, but honestly, it was just so well made! They had an amazing cast – I mean, Peter Stormare, William Fichtner, Robert Knepper, Robin Tunney… the list goes on! It started with this intense focus on escaping prison, but the story kind of evolved. It originally ended after four seasons back in 2009, but then they surprised everyone with a ninth-episode season in 2017. And now? It’s blowing up again! When it hit Netflix in 2024, it instantly became the most-watched show, which just proves how much people still love it. But here’s the catch: it’s leaving Netflix soon, and we don’t know if it’ll be on another streaming service or when it might come back. So, if you want to rewatch it, you’ve only got a few weeks left!
