Though the X-Men are no longer on Krakoa, a cherished aspect from that period seems to have resurfaced again among fans who yearn for the Krakoan era not to have ended so soon. The revival of the X-Men franchise under Jonathan Hickman’s leadership, which included relocating the X-Men to the sentient island nation of Krakoa, has proven influential. As Marvel steers the X-Men towards a new path that leaves Krakoa behind, it seems that certain remnants of Krakoa live on – albeit this time in the possession of an age-old adversary of the X-Men.
Marvel recently shared a sneak peek for issue #8 of the Deadpool/Wolverine series, penned by Benjamin Percy, Joshua Cassara, Guru-eFX, and Joe Sabino on art duties. The main antagonist in this series has been revealed to be Apocalypse, who has been posing as Stryfe, a notorious X-Men villain from the future. Apocalypse has manipulated Deadpool and Wolverine using a advanced nanite solution called Legacy 2.0, with the ultimate goal of destroying the world. As he moves towards the culmination of his grand scheme, it appears that Apocalypse intends to clone members of the X-Men.
Apocalypse Is Making Clones of the X-Men
The opening scene of Deadpool/Wolverine #8 starts off with Stryfe/Apocalypse injecting Legacy 2.0 into Wolverine. Since Apocalypse’s physical form is deteriorating in the future, he manages to transfer his consciousness into Stryfe, a clone of Cable, who was specifically designed for this purpose originally. Later, we jump ahead a millennium to find Stryfe awakening and resuming his role, which is the preservation of the mutant species.
Stryfe declares that he has amassed a collection of altered genetic codes, not just for secure preservation to ensure our survival, but also as a base for our upcoming story. The final page reveals this DNA archive, which includes familiar X-Men characters such as Storm, Colossus, Beast, Nightcrawler, and Wolverine.
Mister Sinister, often depicted as a nemesis for the X-Men, is known for amassing mutant genetic material. A storyline centered around this concept called “Sins of Sinister” takes place within the X-Men universe. However, in our current narrative, it’s Stryfe/Apocalypse who strives to preserve the X-Men lineage for millennia, using their genetic blueprints.
On Krakoa, a unique process known as the “mutant reincarnation procedure” was initiated to revive mutants once they perished. A group called “The Five” possessed mutant abilities that enabled them to generate new bodies and transfer their consciousness into these bodies. While Apocalypse’s actions aren’t identical, they are remarkably similar to the Krakoan reincarnation protocols. For now, it offers the most optimistic hope for fans yearning for the golden era of Krakoa.
As a passionate movie reviewer, I’ve just finished delving into the intriguing backstory of Stryfe, and let me tell you, it’s a fascinating tale. Originally, the enigmatic villain Apocalypse sought to imbue his essence within Stryfe, but that never materialized. However, in this new narrative, we are honored to continue exploring that unrealized potential.
You see, a significant portion of our story revolves around infection, mind control, and possession. Given this thematic focus, the idea of Apocalypse occupying Stryfe feels not only plausible but perfectly aligned with the broader narrative’s undercurrents. In essence, it adds another layer of complexity to an already gripping tale.
In the eighth issue of Deadpool/Wolverine, WOLVERINE and DEADPOOL join forces with a new mutant called LEGACY. However, their alliance could be for either GOOD or EVIL purposes. Additionally, Director TALYN’s plan is unveiled!”
