In simpler terms, the third episode of Peacemaker Season 2 has clarified a significant puzzle from the DC Universe, which was a point of debate since the reboot announcement. Fans have been curious about which elements from the DCEU are considered part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new franchise. Gunn has consistently mentioned that anything shown or referenced in the DCU’s recent projects is officially part of the canon, so Peacemaker Season 2 has already established many events from The Suicide Squad (2021) and Peacemaker Season 1 as being true to this new universe.
In Peacemaker Season 1, the Justice League’s presence was revised to feature the Justice Gang from the future Superman series of 2025, but several events from the DCEU have been verified as part of the DCU’s timeline. This includes the Suicide Squad’s mission in Corto Maltese, Peacemaker killing Rick Flag Jr., and many events from Peacemaker Season 1. The third episode of Peacemaker Season 2 revealed something unexpected that was later confirmed as canon, shocking viewers.
Peacemaker Rewrites Suicide Squad’s Ending
In the third episode of Season 2 titled “Another Rick Up My Sleeve,” Joel Kinnaman reprised his character, Rick Flag Jr., whom he originally played in both 2016’s Suicide Squad and 2021’s The Suicide Squad. During this episode, it was disclosed that Flag had been romantically involved with Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), which sheds light on her hostility towards Peacemaker in the first season since John Cena’s character killed her lover during their mission in Corto Maltese. Additionally, Peacemaker hinted at a previous relationship between Flag and June Moone (Cara Delevingne) before the 2021 Suicide Squad mission, and it seemed that she still possessed magical abilities.
The revised version alters the conclusion of the 2016 film “Suicide Squad” by David Ayer within the DCEU (DC Extended Universe). In the original movie, both Flag and Moone appeared to be in a relationship, but the Enchantress had vanished. However, this new portrayal in “Peacemaker” season 2 implies that Moone might still harbor the Enchantress within her during the Corto Maltese mission, introducing a more ominous prospect for the DCU’s future.
The DCU Just Added A New God-Tier Character
As a die-hard fan of the DC Universe, I can’t help but notice the intriguing hint that the Enchantress wasn’t actually slain at the end of Suicide Squad, and she was still lurking in the shadows during The Suicide Squad. This suggests that one of the most potent characters in the DCU has just been given the green light in the new franchise. Ever since her first appearance in Strange Adventures #187 back in 1966, Enchantress has consistently proven herself to be a formidable force, frequently portrayed as both a villain and an antihero in the comics. I can hardly contain my excitement at the prospect of witnessing her reinterpretation in the new DCU, particularly after the missteps with her character in Suicide Squad.
It’s plausible that obliterating Enchantress’ heart in the movie “Suicide Squad” annihilated her dark persona, leaving June Moone with magical powers and extensive wisdom in ancient arts. This twist might pave the way for a more virtuous version of Enchantress following season 2 of “Peacemaker,” although it remains uncertain if Delevingne will reprise the role again after nearly a decade since her last DC screen appearance. The second season of “Peacemaker” might have verified Moone and Enchantress’ existence, but their immediate return is not guaranteed.
