After a ten-year break, this spy thriller has made a remarkable comeback. The first episode is excellent, immediately reminding viewers what they enjoyed about the original season and making the long wait worthwhile. Importantly, the show prioritizes compelling storytelling over flashy effects, remaining faithful to the spirit of the book it’s based on.
Tom Hiddleston returns as Jonathan Pine in The Night Manager, the series adapted from John le Carré’s novel. Nine years after dismantling the operation of arms dealer Richard Roper, Pine – now living under the alias Alex Goodwin and working as a nighttime surveillance operative – is sent on a new, dangerous mission to Colombia. He’s tasked with investigating Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva), a powerful arms dealer, and his partner, Roxana Bolanos (Camila Morrone). As Pine goes undercover to expose Dos Santos’ criminal network, he finds himself entangled in a world of corruption and hidden agendas.
This Season Is Off To A Certified Fresh Start
The second season of The Night Manager is off to a fantastic start! After only airing its first episode on January 1st on the BBC, it’s currently holding a perfect 100
Critics generally agree that the second season is a worthy adaptation of the original novel. David Opie from Digital Spy praised it, saying it expands on the story in a way John le Carré himself would likely appreciate. He also highlighted its compelling characters, beautiful scenery, and added romantic tension, making it a season to truly enjoy.
The long, ten-year wait for the new season was definitely worth it! Hopefully, if there’s a third season, we won’t have to wait another ten years to see it.
The Night Manager will be available to stream on Prime Video on January 12th.
