A Fan Interaction Almost Ended in Matt Bomer Getting Hit by a Car

This was certainly not the outcomeMatt Bomerwas looking for.

Matt Bomer, known for his role in White Collar, recently shared a story about a fan encounter that almost ended badly. He was spotted by a starstruck fan while he was driving, creating a dangerous situation.

Matt shared a story with Entertainment Weekly about a close call with a fan while doing an interview with his Outcome co-stars, Keanu Reeves and Cameron Diaz. He explained that someone nearly hit him with their car out of excitement, and while it wasn’t the safest way to say hello, the driver didn’t intend to cause harm – they were just caught up in the moment.

The 48-year-old stated the driver didn’t mean to hit him, explaining they were just not paying attention.

He remembered they were turning and spotted him as they did. They seemed to want to greet him, so they pulled over, which made the situation a little uncomfortable.

When asked about the amazing fan interaction, Keanu playfully teased his co-star, joking to Matt Bomer, “You were causing traffic accidents!”

Cameron understood the fan’s excitement, jokingly saying he’d be so distracted he might even crash his car if he saw them in person.

Matt was a little embarrassed by the fan’s enthusiastic reaction, but also secretly pleased they enjoyed his work.

He said he appreciates when people react to his work, but that particular response was a bit overwhelming.

Matt, Cameron, and Keanu have often talked about their Hollywood experiences, and their new film, Outcome, which comes out April 10th, is about an actor who must apologize to people he’s hurt as part of a blackmail scheme.

Okay, so Keanu’s character, Reef, goes through so much in this movie, trying to figure everything out. But honestly? Watching Matt as Xander, Reef’s best friend, actually gave me some insight – like, real advice for actors! It’s like, he subtly shows you how to handle the whole fame thing, which is amazing because I’m just… obsessed with learning everything about acting and how these guys do it.

Reef advises that if you’re fortunate enough to achieve success, it’s important to maintain strong friendships, especially with those who knew you before things changed. These are the people who will keep you grounded and support you through all of life’s challenges and triumphs.

Matt was fortunate to avoid a problem with a fan, but other celebrities have recounted surprising and unexpected mishaps. Here’s more about those incidents…

In February 2017, Jamie Lynn Spears’ daughter, Maddie Aldridge, then eight years old, was riding an ATV near their home in Louisiana when it overturned into a pond. She was underwater for several minutes before being rescued.

It was terrifying. I remember finally getting my daughter out of the water, and when I saw her, it just didn’t look good. The first responders took her from me almost immediately, and honestly, we truly believed we had lost her. It was the scariest moment of my life, thinking we’d lost our little girl, as I shared with Maria Menounos on her Better Together podcast.

Although the extent of her injuries was initially unclear, Maddie regained consciousness and was able to speak within two days. She was back to her usual activities just a few weeks later.

Jamie Lynn shared that she feels incredibly fortunate to have her daughter back after a difficult time when they were separated. She expressed relief and gratitude for their reunion.

An accidental mishap on the set of the 2025 action comedy Bride Hard, starring Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp, left Wilson with a split nose during her final day of filming. According to a June 2025 interview with Access Hollywood, a prop gun struck her face during a fight scene. “It was just a freak accident,” Wilson said, adding, “I left set—it was my last night of shooting—thinking, ‘How unlucky can I be?'”

She described being terrified when she was seriously injured in 2023. She needed immediate medical attention, including a plastic surgeon, to repair the damage and avoid permanent scarring. Thankfully, the surgery was successful, and she says you can’t even tell it happened now.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! Jimmy Fallon – Jimmy Fallon! – almost lost a finger! Apparently, he tripped at home, and when he tried to catch himself, his ring actually got caught on something and nearly ripped his finger off! Can you imagine?! I was so worried when I heard! It’s just… a disaster! I’m so glad he’s okay, but seriously, a finger! Poor Jimmy!

Doctors hospitalized him for ten days to try and save his finger after a severe injury—described as a “ring avulsion”—that threatened amputation.

In June 2025, Zane Wach, a seasoned hiker and multi-sport athlete who competes in long-distance running, swimming, and triathlons, almost succumbed to altitude sickness while hiking Mount Whitney in California with his father, Ryan Wach.

The 14-year-old began having hallucinations, but he was aware they weren’t real, Ryan told SFGATE. He described seeing things like snowmen and Kermit the Frog.

Ryan had to repeatedly stop his teenage son from walking off the cliff as they hiked back down the trail. The father explained that his son seemed to be experiencing a break from reality, and they still aren’t sure what caused it. Ryan believes it was likely a combination of factors, including tiredness, lack of sleep, dehydration, and lingering effects from altitude sickness.

After failing twice, Ryan couldn’t reach Zane, and watched helplessly as his son fell about 120 feet from the cliff. It took six hours for a rescue helicopter from Inyo County to arrive and transport Zane to the hospital in Lone Pine, where he was initially stabilized before being moved to a specialized trauma center for children in Las Vegas. Doctors put Zane into a medically induced coma, but he eventually started breathing independently.

Ryan described his teenager’s recovery from a serious accident – including a head injury, broken finger, ankle, and fractured pelvis – as a long journey. He said, ‘We’re still in the thick of it, but we expect him to survive and recover.’

On New Year’s Day in 2023, actor Jeremy Renner, known for his role in Avengers, was seriously injured while helping a family member. He was using a snowplow near his Lake Tahoe home to pull a stuck vehicle out of the snow. After getting out of the snowplow, it began to move and he tried to stop it from hitting his nephew, resulting in 38 broken bones.

In his 2025 memoir, My Next Breath, he described lying on the ice on New Year’s Day, his heartbeat slowing. He wrote that after manually breathing for around thirty minutes – a strenuous effort similar to doing ten to twenty push-ups every minute for half an hour – he simply grew tired and died, unbeknownst to his daughter, sisters, friends, or parents.

Despite suffering broken bones, significant blood loss, and the risk of dangerously low body temperature, he believed he had died. He later wrote about how paramedics found his heart rate had dropped to just 18 beats per minute, a level they considered fatal.

In May 2025, TikTok creator Emilie Kiser and her husband, Brady, experienced a terrifying ordeal when their three-year-old son, Trigg, accidentally fell into their pool at their home in Arizona.

On May 12th, Chandler Police responded to a home after a child was found unconscious in a backyard pool. Police and firefighters immediately began CPR, and the child, identified as Trigg, was taken to Chandler Regional Hospital. Sadly, Trigg passed away six days later.

Emilie filed a lawsuit asking the court to prevent Maricopa County from releasing details about his death. The lawsuit explained that Emilie is focused on caring for her two-month-old son, Theodore, and is struggling every day with the situation.

Dr. Cara Hodgson described a family vacation to Thailand as turning into “the worst 10 days” of her life after she received an electric shock from power lines in December 2023. She lost consciousness and was taken to the emergency room, then spent the next week and a half recovering in hospitals while struggling to regain her strength and save her life, as she shared in an Instagram post on New Year’s Day. She expressed how grateful she was to still be alive.

Despite the discomfort, the orthodontist discovered a newfound appreciation for life. Cara explained that the experience reminded her – and all of us – of something important: “Just being alive is a gift.” She realized how wonderful it is to simply be able to breathe, eat, speak, and move, and that these everyday abilities deserve to be celebrated.

In June 2025, Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins died while hiking on Mount Rinjani, an active volcano in Indonesia. She fell from a cliff, and despite a four-day search effort involving 48 people, her body was only found after being hampered by bad weather and difficult terrain, according to a statement from the Brazilian government. Thankfully, she did not fall into the volcano’s crater.

Juliana Marins’ family shared heartbreaking news on Instagram today: rescue teams reached her location, but sadly, she did not survive. The family expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of prayers, kind messages, and support they received.

In 2015, actress Tori Spelling, known for her role on Beverly Hills, 90210, accidentally burned her right arm on a hot grill while at an Easter brunch at Benihana. She required skin grafts and later decided to file a lawsuit against the restaurant.

She revealed on her 2024 podcast, 9021OMG (co-hosted with Jennie Garth), that she received a skin graft from her thigh to cover a severe burn on her arm. She jokingly said, ‘Not many people can say they’re wearing their thigh on their arm,’ but emphasized she wasn’t exaggerating.

Comedian Tony Knight tragically died in June 2024 at the Rock&Cars festival in France when he was struck by falling tree branches. He was 54 years old and enjoying life, according to Joanne Allen, the sister of his partner, Hayley Wright. Allen described Knight as fit, healthy, happy, and full of life, noting his charisma, humor, and passion.

Oh my gosh, everyone who knew him just loved him, especially his partner! She posted the sweetest thing on Instagram, saying he was unbelievably talented – seriously, he could do anything. She said he was such a great friend to so many people, and the best dog dad… but more than anything, he was her whole world. She said it’ll never be the same, and honestly, I feel exactly the same way. It’s just… devastating.

A company celebration turned disastrous in January 2024. During a party in India to launch the 25th anniversary of Chicago-based software firm Vistex, CEO Sanjay Shah and President Vishwanath Raju Datla were suspended in an iron cage. The cage was intended to be lowered 20 feet onto a stage, but two wires broke, causing both men to fall onto the concrete below, according to a report in The Times of India.

Sanjay, age 56, died at the hospital after the accident, according to reports. Vishwanath, 52, suffered a serious head injury and died several months afterward.

In a 2022 Instagram video with UNICEF, Orlando Bloom revealed that when he was 19, he fell three stories from a window and broke his back. He was attempting to climb onto a rooftop terrace with friends when the drainpipe he was using gave way. Despite breaking several vertebrae, he considered himself lucky to have survived, as his spinal cord hadn’t been completely severed.

He explained that doctors initially told him, during his first four days in the hospital, that he might never walk again. This was the start of a difficult process of realizing how certain patterns in his life had contributed to a series of accidents, ultimately culminating in a life-threatening back injury.

After leaving the hospital wearing a back brace and dealing with a lot of physical and emotional pain, he immediately started going out and partying – still wearing the brace, he told GQ in 2005. It took a couple of months for him to realize this new reality and decide he needed to make the most of it.

He said the experience completely changed his perspective on life. He realized he hadn’t fully appreciated things until he faced a potential loss. He used to be a reckless driver and motorcyclist, always pushing his limits, not for the thrill, but because he enjoyed the adrenaline. Now, he’s much more relaxed and cautious.
