Nearly two weeks after it first launched and a week after its newest episode aired, HBO’s House of the Dragon continues to be the most popular show on HBO Max. According to data from Flix Patrol, it’s held the top spot for five days straight, briefly dropping to number two before the latest episode was released.
Beyond the United States, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a huge hit on HBO Max, appearing at the top of the streaming charts in 65 other countries. It’s usually the number one show, and even where it doesn’t claim the top spot, it consistently ranks within the top three – with one exception being North Macedonia.
The show A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the second Game of Thrones prequel series. Critics generally favor it more than House of the Dragon; it currently has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, an improvement from its initial score, while House of the Dragon averages 87% across its two seasons (with a 90% rating for its first season).
Notably, viewers on Rotten Tomatoes gave A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms a score of only 65%. It appears fans weren’t as enthusiastic because this installment is more comedic and less serious than previous ones, and it focuses on smaller, more personal conflicts.
I absolutely adore those massive, perfectly-produced shows, and honestly, we’re not aiming for that at all. What I really hope is that viewers will be understanding about our rough edges. We poured our hearts into this, and that’s exactly what Dunk is doing – throwing himself into something completely new and challenging, even if he’s a little out of his depth. He’s giving it everything he’s got, and I find that so endearing.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Dominates HBO Max
The show is being called a nearly flawless Game of Thrones spin-off. The reviewer highlights the exciting and compelling hero’s journey of Dunk and Egg, even though it’s presented in a subtle way. The series focuses on themes of growing up – learning independence, showing courage, and finding guidance from mentors – while also exploring the complex social structure of Westeros. It’s a significant shift in tone from the spectacle of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, so it might not appeal to all viewers. However, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is grand and impressive in its own way, offering a unique and captivating story.
The HBO series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is inspired by George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg, a collection of three stories now published as one book. Season 1 of the series covers the first story in the collection, titled The Hedge Knight.
Before it even airs, the show is generating excitement. It’s likely that future seasons will cover the remaining two stories in George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg series – The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight – along with other material.
The first two episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are now available on HBO Max. Each Sunday, new episodes will premiere on both HBO and HBO Max.
