As a huge fan of the Game of Thrones universe, I’ve been absolutely loving A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. It’s become one of the biggest TV shows of 2026, and honestly, the cast is phenomenal. Peter Claffey, Dexter Sol Ansell, and Daniel Ings – they’ve all given such incredible performances, really adding something special to this world we know and love. With the third season of House of the Dragon coming out this summer, the success of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms feels perfectly timed for HBO – it’s a great moment for the whole franchise!

I’ve been loving seeing George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg stories adapted, but I was really surprised and a little disappointed that the recent episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms accidentally revealed how House of the Dragon eventually ends. It’s a major plot point, and while book readers will know it, it’s a big spoiler for anyone who hasn’t read Martin’s work, especially concerning House of the Dragon and the events of The Dance of the Dragons.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Revealed the Result of the Dance of the Dragons

I was completely captivated by the latest episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms! Seeing Dunk thrown in jail after going after Aerion Targaryen was intense, but I was even more relieved when he and Egg were reunited. Beyond just enjoying their somewhat awkward conversation, I realized something amazing – a small detail they discussed actually sheds light on a huge part of Westeros’s past! It’s fascinating because it directly connects to what we’re seeing unfold in the House of the Dragon prequel, giving us a deeper understanding of everything that’s happening.

After discovering Egg’s true identity as a prince, Dunk asks him how many kings named Aegon have ruled Westeros. Egg replies that four different Aegon Targaryens have been king.

Egg: I never meant to lie.

You changed pretty much everything, it seems, starting with your name. A Prince Egg? That’s a new one.

Egg: Short for Aegon.

Dunk: Of course. After the Conqueror? How many Aegons have been king?

Egg: Four. Four Aegons.

For Ser Duncan the Tall, what Egg says shows the boy’s noble birth and highlights the difference in their positions. But for viewers of House of the Dragon, those same words have a deeper significance.

Egg’s true name is Aegon V Targaryen. If he’s telling the truth, it means that everyone named Aegon in his family has eventually become king, and two of those Aegons are characters in the show House of the Dragon.
