A second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is confirmed, but it will be quite different from the first. The first season ended with Dunk and Egg traveling to Dorne, suggesting more adventures were ahead. However, this journey began only after Egg ran away from home again and misled Dunk about what Maekar Targaryen wanted.
The recent events likely lay the groundwork for part of Season 2’s plot, which will probably deal with Egg’s deception and potentially involve the Targaryen family somehow. While a return is still possible, actor Sam Spruell has confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that he won’t be appearing in Season 2, meaning we won’t see his character, Maekar, chasing after Dunk and Egg. He added further comment on the possibility of a return.
“Well, we’ll see. Never say never, but I’m pretty sure that there will be other stories to tell.”
A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Will Be Different (But Also The Same)

The second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is likely to feature a mostly new cast, mirroring the story in George R.R. Martin’s novella, The Sworn Sword. While actors Claffey and Ansell will reprise their roles, the season is expected to introduce new characters, meaning few, if any, actors from the first season will return. This explains why actor Spruell has confirmed he won’t be involved, particularly as the season is already being filmed.
In The Sworn Sword, Dunk and Egg are working for an elderly knight, Ser Eustace Osgrey, in the Reach. The story takes place about a year and a half after the events at Ashford, during a time of severe drought across Westeros. Dunk finds himself caught up in a local argument over a stream between Osgrey and a neighboring landowner. Like the first season, this installment will focus on a smaller cast and a more contained story.
We might see some characters return who fans already know. Bringing back someone like Raymun Fossoway and his wife Rowan (played by Shaun Thomas and Rowan Robinson) isn’t a huge leap, and it’s possible Dunk and Egg could encounter Tanselle (Tanzyn Crawford) early in the season while in Dorne. However, these appearances wouldn’t be part of the original stories.
Even if Maekar doesn’t appear on screen, his influence should still be noticeable. The story includes a signet ring passed down from Maekar to Egg, which is meant to verify Egg’s identity if needed – the show shouldn’t skip this detail, so they’ll need to explain how Egg got it, even without Maekar making an appearance. Since Maekar isn’t in the third book, it’s unlikely we’ll see him in the third season of the show either, but he’s important enough to the future of Westeros that he could reappear later on if the series continues.
The second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is anticipated to premiere on HBO and HBO Max in 2027. You can currently watch all six episodes of the first season on HBO Max.
