Fans can look forward to the conclusion of Bleach‘s Thousand-Year Blood War arc in 2026, finally wrapping up the story of Ichigo Kurosaki and the Soul Society. While the anime will bring this epic to a close, the Bleach universe will continue to expand through various digital platforms. However, not all news is positive, as a popular Bleach video game is set to shut down later this year, adding to the list of anime-based mobile games that haven’t found lasting success.
I was really excited when Bleach: Soul Puzzle came out on mobile in 2024 – it was so cool to see all my favorite Bleach characters, redesigned in a super cute chibi style! The game especially featured characters from the Thousand-Year Blood War arc, which was awesome since the anime was back. Sadly, it looks like that wasn’t enough to keep it going. They’ve announced Soul Puzzle will be shutting down on April 14th. They’ve already stopped selling in-game currency, which was a sign of things to come. Even though this game is ending, knowing how popular Bleach is, I wouldn’t be surprised if another mobile game pops up to fill the void eventually!
What Lies Ahead For Bleach?
The final arc of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, titled The Calamity, is coming later this year, though Studio Pierrot hasn’t announced a specific release date yet. These new episodes will adapt the climactic battle between the Soul Society and the Wandenreich, and promise significant surprises and changes for many of the Soul Reapers. While everyone expects Ichigo to reach a new power level to defeat Yhwach, fans are especially eager to see another, more formidable Shinigami finally enter the fight.
Kenpachi, the powerful swordsman known for his eyepatch and relentless focus on battle, has been a key figure in the ongoing Blood War. He previously defeated and killed his former teacher, the Shinigami who gave him the title ‘Kenpachi,’ and is now preparing to unleash his Bankai – a technique that dramatically increases a Shinigami’s power. Throughout the Bleach series, Kenpachi has notably fought without relying on the common abilities used by most Shinigami, making this reveal a truly momentous occasion that will likely change everything.
I’ve been wondering if we’ll see Ichigo Kurosaki back in Weekly Shonen Jump, and it’s hard to say for sure. Tite Kubo did come back for a single story, Bleach: No Breaths From Hell, but it felt incomplete, like a story left unfinished. It introduced a new threat to the Soul Society, and while it doesn’t seem like there’s enough there for a full new season right now, I get the feeling Kubo might be tempted to pick up Ichigo’s story again with this new plotline.
