The upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, may include an unexpected return of a familiar face from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel officially revealed the cast in March through a lengthy, over five-hour live stream, gradually unveiling actors’ names on specially designated chairs. Key stars like Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Sebastian Stan were among those announced.
Details about the upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday have surfaced, revealing appearances by actors from Fox’s X-Men films, including Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. The film will also feature stars who have recently joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the Multiverse Saga, such as Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, and David Harbour. Now, it appears another previously unconfirmed actor will be joining the cast of Avengers: Doomsday.
Kathryn Newton posted a photo on her Instagram Stories of herself at Disneyland wearing a hat from the Avengers: Doomsday set, as shared on Twitter by @alexschlerf.
In the 2023 film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Kathryn Newton portrayed Cassie Lang, the daughter of Ant-Man (Paul Rudd). Her character helped defeat Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors, who was the first major villain in the Multiverse Saga, before Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) became the primary threat.
Abby Ryder Fortson originally played Cassie Lang in the Ant-Man movies. As the character grew older, Emma Fuhrmann took on the role in Avengers: Endgame. But when it was time for Cassie to become a hero, the filmmakers decided to bring in Kathryn Newton, an actress with more experience, to play the part.
Cassie Lang, played by Newton, is set to be a key member of the future Young Avengers team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the team doesn’t have an official name yet, the recruitment process began with Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) in the movie The Marvels. That film saw Kamala Khan attempt to recruit Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), and it also hinted at Cassie’s involvement, which was further confirmed by the Daredevil: Born Again series.
Kamala’s dad, Yusuf Khan, mentioned to Daredevil that Kamala was visiting friends in California. Since Cassie lives in San Francisco, fans believe this was a hint that she’s being recruited as a young hero. This follows a previous suggestion in The Marvels where Ms. Marvel asked Kate Bishop if she knew Ant-Man had a daughter, potentially setting up Cassie’s future role.
When the cast for Avengers: Doomsday was first revealed, Paul Rudd’s name was missing. However, Kevin Feige clarified on April 3rd that the initial announcement wasn’t the complete cast list. The first two trailers for Avengers: Doomsday have since included Steve Rogers and Love, characters who hadn’t been confirmed before. This suggests that Cassie Lang could also return in Avengers: Doomsday.
