A Minecraft Movie 2 Adds Spider-Man Star to the Cast

A Minecraft Movie 2 has added a major Spider-Man star to the cast of the sequel movie.

Last year, Warner Bros. Pictures released a movie based on the popular video game Minecraft. Directed by Jared Hess, the film features Jason Momoa as Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison, along with Jack Black as Steve, Emma Myers as Natalie, Danielle Brooks as Dawn, Sebastian Hansen as Henry, and Jennifer Coolidge as Marlene. The original Minecraft game was created and launched by Mojang Studios in 2011.

A second Minecraft movie is being made and is expected to come out next year.

Who has joined the cast of A Minecraft Movie 2?

According to Deadline, Kirsten Dunst, known for her role as Spider-Man’s Mary Jane, will be appearing in the upcoming Minecraft movie. Details about her character haven’t been revealed yet. Dunst previously shared with Town & Country that she was eager to join the film because her children are fans of the original Minecraft movie.

Kirsten Dunst is known for many roles, including Mary Jane Watson in the Spider-Man movies. More recently, she earned an Oscar nomination for her work in The Power of the Dog (2022) and an Emmy nomination for Fargo Season 2. Other notable films she’s appeared in include Interview with the Vampire (1994), Jumanji (1995), The Virgin Suicides (1999), Bring It On (2000), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), Marie Antoinette (2006), Melancholia (2011), Hidden Figures (2016), Civil War (2024), and she’s slated to star in Roofman (2025).

Jason Momoa, Craig Robinson, Jack Black, and Aubrey Plaza will reprise their roles in the upcoming Minecraft Movie 2. Matt Berry is also returning to voice the character Nitwit. Hess will direct the sequel, and Chris Galletta wrote the script.

A Minecraft Movie 2 arrives on July 23, 2027.
