Over a century of horror movies has produced only a few true classics. Films like the early Universal Monster movies, Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and The Blair Witch Project not only scared audiences but also shaped the horror genre. And even in the 21st century, a few standout films have earned that title – including a particularly chilling 2016 movie that’s now streaming on Peacock!
Though James Wan’s planned American remake of Train to Busan, titled The Last Train to New York, isn’t moving forward, Peacock is now streaming the original 2016 South Korean film. Train to Busan became available on the NBCUniversal streaming service on February 11th, which is good news for fans and those disappointed about the remake. The movie is a fast-paced action horror story about a father and daughter trying to survive a sudden zombie outbreak while traveling by train from Seoul to Busan.
Train to Busan Blends Fast-Paced Zombie Action With Powerful Emotional Drama
Train to Busan is widely considered one of the greatest zombie and horror films ever made, and rightfully so. It’s a brilliantly crafted movie that expertly blends intense, fast-paced zombie action with a moving story about relationships, humanity, and sacrifice. It’s no wonder the film received a “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, boasting a 95% approval score from critics and an impressive 89% audience score.
It’s easy to see why Train to Busan received such high praise – it’s a remarkably well-made film with very few flaws. From beginning to end, the movie delivers relentless, thrilling action with terrifyingly fast and aggressive zombies. The setting – a speeding KTX train – adds to the intensity, creating a truly claustrophobic experience. But what really makes Train to Busan special is its strong focus on character development alongside the horror. It’s a compelling story about human nature when pushed to its limits, and particularly about a father’s desperate attempt to save his daughter. Gong Yoo gives a standout performance as a man who transforms from someone distant and self-centered into a true hero, making the film not only scary, but also deeply moving and satisfying.
What’s New on Peacock?
Peacock isn’t just adding Train to Busan this month! Throughout February, the streaming service has been adding a lot of new movies, with a big batch arriving on February 1st. Subscribers can now enjoy popular films like Above the Rim, The ‘Burbs (from 1989), Happy Gilmore, and Talk To Me, plus many more.
