Get ready, Power Rangers fans! After over 30 years, the popular superhero series is making a comeback with exciting new projects. A new live-action Power Rangers show is coming to Disney+ from the creators of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, marking the first live-action series since Super Sentai ended. However, fans hoping to revisit a recent Power Rangers movie will need to act fast, as it’s almost leaving Netflix.
If you’re a fan of the Power Rangers, heads up! The 2017 movie is leaving Netflix on March 6th, so you only have three days left to watch it. It’s a fun reboot that takes inspiration from the very first Mighty Morphin Power Rangers episode, ‘Day of the Dumpster.’ I remember really enjoying seeing Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Becky G, and Ludi Lin play those awkward teens who suddenly get superpowers. It’s all about them learning to work together, despite their own problems, to save the world from Rita Repulsa – a classic villain! Definitely worth a watch if you have the time before it’s gone.
Saban’s Power Rangers Is an Underrated Entry in the Long-Running Franchise
Despite a dedicated fanbase, the Power Rangers movie didn’t achieve mainstream success. It earned $142 million globally, barely covering its $100 million production cost, and received mixed reviews – critics gave it a 51% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences liked it more at 65%. Many criticized the movie for being slow and lacking enough action. Plans for a six-movie series were cancelled due to the film’s disappointing performance. However, the 2017 movie was actually quite enjoyable and had the potential to launch a successful franchise.
While not the strongest installment in the long-running franchise, Saban’s movie was a good effort to introduce the story to a new audience. Instead of immediately launching into action, the film focuses on developing its characters, portraying them as relatable and diverse teenagers with complex backgrounds and personal struggles. This approach makes their transformation into heroes feel more meaningful and adds a layer of maturity and emotional depth to the story. The movie also cleverly expands the series’ lore by revealing Zordon’s past as a Red Ranger and giving Rita Repulsa a deeper connection to the team. Plus, it includes impressive visuals and plenty of Easter eggs for longtime fans. Despite some weaknesses, the film felt like a missed opportunity and deserved a chance to continue the story.
Where to Stream Power Rangers After It Leaves Netflix?
If you’re a fan of Power Rangers, now’s the time to watch the 2017 movie on Netflix. It’s currently the only place to stream it, and it won’t be available anywhere else this month. After this month, you’ll have to rent or buy it online, and there’s no word yet on whether it will return to a streaming service in April.
