Prison Break is breaking out once again.
The popular show is getting a fresh start on Hulu. The streaming service has approved a reboot, bringing it back to screens eight years after the original series ended.
Okay, so the original Prison Break with Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, and William Fitchner? Perfection. But now, get this, they’re doing a reboot! It’s going to be totally different because it’s a whole new group of prisoners we’re going to be obsessing over. I’m already bracing myself to fall in love with them all over again!
The new series will feature Lukas Gage, Emily Browning, Drake Rodger, Georgie Flores, JR Bourne, Myles Bullock, and Clayton Cardenas.
According to Deadline, actress Browning will play Cassidy, a former soldier who becomes a corrections officer. She takes a job at a notoriously dangerous prison to demonstrate her dedication to someone she cares about.
According to Deadline, the new project from filmmaker Elgin James takes place in the same world as Prison Break, but it’s a completely separate story. It won’t feature any actors or characters from the original series.
In the original series, Wentworth Miller played Michael Scofield, an engineer who intentionally got a job at a prison to help his brother, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), avoid a wrongful execution. The show aired from 2005 to 2009 and was later revived for another season in 2017.
Even years after the show ended, Miller – who publicly came out as gay in 2013 – explained why he wasn’t interested in revisiting the world of Prison Break.

In 2020, he announced on social media that he was done playing straight characters. He clarified it wasn’t just because of online negativity, but simply because he felt those stories had already been told enough times and he wanted to focus on other roles.
Miller announced that Michael will not be returning. He acknowledged that fans hoping for more seasons will be disappointed and apologized for that. He also jokingly suggested that anyone who developed feelings for the character, despite knowing the actor’s real-life sexuality, is responsible for processing those feelings themselves.
At the time, Purcell chimed in with support of his onscreen brother.

You know, I just received the sweetest message from a friend, and it really got me thinking. He simply said, ‘It was fun,’ and followed up with how much he respected my choices. He totally gets why I’m prioritizing my well-being and living authentically, and honestly, that support means the world. He even encouraged me to keep sharing my journey, and sent a little ‘love ya!’ – it’s those genuine connections that really make life special, isn’t it? It reminded me how important it is to surround yourself with people who lift you up and celebrate your truth.
Although a release date for the Prison Break reboot hasn’t been announced, plenty of other new and returning TV shows are coming out this year. Keep reading to learn more.
