A Riverdale Spinoff Is in the Works—With an Apocalyptic Twist

Archie Andrews is headed back to the small screen.

It’s been two years since Riverdale finished its seven seasons, and now, several sources report, a new television series inspired by the Archie Comics is being developed.

A new hourlong drama called Afterlife With Archie is being developed for Disney+, and has already been ordered to series after receiving a script, according to Deadline. The show is described as a fresh take on the familiar town of Riverdale, transforming it into a terrifying, post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies that eat people.

This new series is linked to Riverdale, the show that featured KJ Apa, Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes and Charles Melton. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the CEO of Archie Comics and the creator/writer of both the CW drama and the Afterlife With Archie comics, is involved as a writer and executive producer, according to Deadline.

The official Archie Comics Instagram page has announced that a new series is in the works. They shared an article about the project with the message, “Just in time for spooky season!”

We contacted Disney+, Berlanti Productions, and a representative for Aguirre-Sacasa for a statement, but haven’t received a response yet. TopMob News is still awaiting their comments.

Although the actors for the upcoming series haven’t been announced yet, some of the Riverdale cast members have shared stories about what it was like working on the show. After KJ-who portrayed Archie during the entire series-suggested that he and his colleagues had romantic relationships with each other off camera, Madelaine Petsch clarified that this wasn’t the case for her.

“I didn’t have any physical contact with anyone on that show, not even close,” the actress, known for playing Cheryl Blossom in the series, explained on Call Her Daddy in September. “Let me say that again for clarity: I did not have sexual relations with anyone on Riverdale. I maintained no physical contact with them. That’s the truth. Consider this my explanation,” she added.

In August 2017, Jacinda Ardern surprisingly took over as leader of New Zealand’s opposition party just before the national election. She was only 37 years old at the time. Just two very busy months later, she became Prime Minister and discovered she was expecting a baby. This made her only the second world leader ever to give birth while holding office. Ardern quickly gained international recognition, attracting attention from people who wanted a leader who was understanding and caring when dealing with today’s important challenges. Personally, she found it difficult balancing new motherhood with the pressure of proving herself to a public that often doubted women in leadership roles. She faced a series of major crises-including the Christchurch mosque shootings, pandemic restrictions, and protests filled with misinformation-which truly tested her leadership and the different way she approached things. She stepped down from her position in January 2023, which came as a surprise to both her supporters and those who disagreed with her.

As a long-time follower of true crime, the 1984 disappearance of Catriona and Adam Grant has always stayed with me. It’s a case that truly baffled everyone. Catriona, a lovely young woman who inherited a huge oil fortune, and her two-year-old son, Adam, were violently kidnapped at gunpoint right outside a fish and chip shop in Fife. The ransom demands caused a media frenzy, but when the kidnappers went quiet, the police investigation stalled, and sadly, Catriona and Adam were never found. Now, after decades, a body has been discovered with clear connections to the original kidnapping – it’s the first real lead in years! I’m so eager to see Karen (Lauren Lyle) assemble a fantastic team, working alongside her dedicated and charming partner, DC Jason ‘Mint’ Murray (Chris Jenks), and the incredibly intelligent – though a bit complicated romantically – DS Phil Parhatka (Zach Wyatt). With the kidnapping being so famous internationally and the immense pressure from Catriona’s father, Sir Broderick Grant (James Cosmo), this is undoubtedly the biggest case of their careers. As Karen digs deeper into the events of that autumn in 1984, old political rivalries and heartbreaking secrets are coming to light, and it’s becoming increasingly clear… the past isn’t finished with us yet.

Serial killer. Grave robber. Psycho. In the cold countryside of 1950s Wisconsin, a seemingly ordinary and quiet man named Eddie Gein lived on a run-down farm – secretly harboring terrifying crimes that would change how Americans thought about horror. Fueled by loneliness, mental illness, and a strong attachment to his mother, Gein’s disturbing acts created a new type of monster that would inspire decades of horror films. From Psycho to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to The Silence of the Lambs, Gein’s shocking story led to the creation of fictional villains modeled after him and sparked a widespread fascination with criminal minds. Ed Gein didn’t just impact a film genre – he became the original model for modern horror.

The Sisters Grimm tells the story of adventurous and kindhearted sisters who are detectives – and happen to be descendants of the famous Brothers Grimm. Though they have very different personalities, they work together wonderfully as a team.
