Recent documents show that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund will own about 93.4% of Electronic Arts (EA) stock. This follows their $55 billion agreement to acquire EA in September, but the extent of their ownership wasn’t previously disclosed.
This investment would give the Public Investment Fund clear control of the company. The 93.4% ownership figure is tied to how the deal was financed, but the details of that calculation haven’t been made public.
The documents also show the fund will need to contribute around $29 billion of its own money to finish the acquisition. If completed as planned, the fund would own 93.4% of EA, giving it the primary say in how the company is run. However, EA has stated that it will still be responsible for the creative direction of its games.
Will this buyout mean anything for fans?

With the Public Investment Fund now owning 93.4% of EA, it’s poised to significantly shape the company’s future. This change could mean a long-term shift in how EA does business, moving it away from the typical pressures of quarterly earnings reports and aligning it with the investor’s broader vision.
This deal also allows the Public Investment Fund to guide EA’s future investments. By having significant control, it can push EA to grow into areas and markets that fit its overall investment plans. The Public Investment Fund has been actively investing in entertainment and sports, and gaming is now a key part of its strategy.
When it comes to gaming, they own small shares in companies like Nintendo, Capcom, Nexon, and Embracer Group, but these shares aren’t enough to give them a controlling interest.
It’s hard to say exactly what EA’s recent changes will mean for players like us. They just released a successful Battlefield game and continue to put out their yearly sports titles – even though I personally don’t enjoy those. They’re also developing a new Mass Effect game, but we don’t know when it will come out. This is a big project for them, and it’s crucial that they get it right.
