Great news for fans of the original! A sequel to The 10th Kingdom is officially in the works. While the beloved 2000 TV miniseries might have faded from some memories, its dedicated followers have been hoping for a continuation for over 25 years. Now, it looks like that wish is finally coming true.
Though often called a miniseries, The 10th Kingdom was unlike anything else on television at the time. All five episodes, each almost two hours long, aired over five consecutive nights in 2000. The story centers on Virginia, a New York City waitress played by Kimberly Williams, who unexpectedly falls through a magical mirror with her father and finds herself in a fantastical parallel world – The Nine Kingdoms – where fairy tales come to life.
Virginia spends five episodes trying to get back home in The 10th Kingdom, but her trip is made difficult by the Evil Queen, who wants to capture her friend – the grandson of Snow White, who has been magically turned into a dog. The series is full of adventure, love, mystery, magic, and unexpected surprises. While the story does have a happy conclusion, many viewers have wished there was more to the tale.
The 10th Kingdom’s Creator Has A Sequel Book In The Works
After a 25-year wait, a sequel to the beloved miniseries The 10th Kingdom is finally on the way! Creator Simon Moore announced in early 2025 that he’s written a novel called Big Bad Wolf: A 10th Kingdom Fairytale. It took some time to sort out the rights to the story, but Moore has finished the book and sent it to his publisher. While it may still be a while before it’s released, the important thing is that a continuation of The 10th Kingdom is officially happening.
Author Moore shared the opening chapter of his latest novel with his Facebook followers. The book, titled Big Bad Wolf: A 10th Kingdom Fairytale, centers on Accalia, the daughter of Virginia and Wolf, who was raised in New York City without knowing her true fate. Accalia’s life takes an unexpected turn when she realizes she’s being followed by people wearing red cloaks. In an attempt to evade them, she follows a mysterious man named Lupus through a magical mirror.
The potential sequel to The 10th Kingdom appears to be set in New York once more, but will likely return to the fantastical Nine Kingdoms. The story will probably explore how this magical realm has changed since the Evil Queen’s defeat. We can expect to see whether Prince Wendell’s reign brought prosperity, or if a new villain has allowed darkness to persist.
Simon Moore’s New 10th Kingdom Book Could Mean A TV Sequel Too
Bryan Moore has expressed interest in continuing Big Bad Wolf: A 10th Kingdom Fairytale as a TV series, picking up where the original miniseries left off. Unfortunately, securing the necessary legal permissions is proving difficult. While Moore overcame challenges to obtain the rights to the source book, creating a full TV adaptation will require significantly more complex legal work.
It’s been 25 years, and fans would be thrilled to see actors like Williams and Scott Cohen reprise their roles. We’re eager to find out what happened to Virginia and Wolf after their happy ending, and to be introduced to their daughter, Accalia. A return to the magical Nine Kingdoms would be fantastic, of course. Whether that will happen remains to be seen, but for now, we’re happily anticipating the new novel based on The 10th Kingdom.
