A Technical Mess without It, STALKER 2’s Day 1 PS5 Patch Is Critical

After being available on Xbox Series X|S and PC for a year, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has now launched on PS5. Unfortunately, similar to its initial release, the game is experiencing a number of technical issues on the PlayStation platform.

We’ve been testing the game for a few weeks and found several bugs, glitches, and performance problems. The developers have released an update (version 1.7) to address these issues, and it’s now available. We highly recommend updating your game on PS5 to get the smoothest and most enjoyable experience possible.

As soon as we finish testing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 with the initial update installed, we’ll release our complete PS5 review.

Here are the key changes included in the new update, according to the team at GSC Game World. They’ve also made hundreds of smaller improvements.

  • Major A-Life Overhaul

Non-player characters and mutants are now battling each other for control of different areas. Most locations, like landmarks and checkpoints (but not main hubs), are constantly changing hands as groups fight over them.

  • Master Difficulty

We’ve added a new, extremely difficult game mode that you can choose when you begin a fresh playthrough. This mode has been rebalanced to be much harder, and it removes both autosaving and the ability to save manually. You’ll only be able to save your progress when traveling between main areas or after completing key story events.

  • Inventory & Equipment UI Rework

The user interface has been updated to display protection from Zone dangers. Items like consumables and artifacts now come in five different quality levels, up from three. A new meter shows the radiation impact of your equipped artifacts.

  • Stamina & Energy Drink Changes

Okay, so the game has three ways to move – you can walk, jog, or sprint. But, and this is a bummer, if you use too many energy drinks, your character starts to shake and it actually makes aiming harder. It’s a cool idea, but you really have to manage your boosts!

Early reviews of the PS5 version of the game give it a Metacritic score of 75, averaging eight reviews. This is just a small improvement over the Xbox Series X|S and PC versions, which both have a score of 73.
