A24 just released the trailer for their new movie, Undertone, and it looks like a truly terrifying experience for horror fans. The film focuses heavily on sound design, with incredibly unsettling audio, so watching the trailer with headphones is highly recommended – it’s sure to send chills down your spine!
A24 has unveiled the trailer for Undertone, a new horror movie about a podcast host who starts receiving unsettling content for her show. As she investigates, she finds herself caught up in something far more frightening than she expected. Undertone will be released in theaters on March 13th. Here’s what the movie is about, according to its official description:
A podcast host who specializes in scary stories returns home to care for her seriously ill mother. While she’s there, she receives audio recordings documenting a couple’s frightening paranormal experiences. As she listens, she realizes their story eerily mirrors her own life, and the tapes begin to unravel her sanity.
Ian Tuason’s first feature film, Undertone, was made with support from Black Fawn Films, Slaterverse Pictures, and Spooky Pictures. Dan Slater and Cody Calahan produced the film, which stars Nina Kiri (known for The Handmaid’s Tale), Kris Holden-Ried (The Umbrella Academy), Keana Lyn Bastidas (The Hardy Boys), as well as Michèle Duquet, Sarah Beaudin, and Seled Calderon.
The horror film Undertone quickly gained attention after its debut at the Fantasia International Film Festival in July 2025, largely due to its intensely unsettling sound. A24 then purchased the rights to distribute the film in the U.S. and Canada, reportedly paying over a million dollars – an unusual amount for a director’s first feature film.
Tuason’s first film, Undertone, is receiving a lot of positive attention. It impressed audiences at its film festival debut and has led to a major opportunity: Tuason will direct the next Paranormal Activity movie. Following the release of what’s expected to be a standout horror film in 2026, he’ll be taking on the challenge of reviving the popular found footage series. The reboot will be produced by James Wan, the acclaimed creator of The Conjuring and Saw franchises.
