In February, ABC announced it was renewing Abbott Elementary for a sixth season – the first show the network committed to bringing back for the next TV season. This highlights how valuable the sitcom is to ABC, particularly because most of their programming focuses on crime and investigative shows. Currently, Abbott Elementary stands out as one of the few traditional comedies on the network.
When Abbott Elementary returns for the 2026-2027 season, it will have aired over 100 episodes – a significant achievement in today’s television landscape where shows are often cancelled after just a few seasons. The renewal for season 6 isn’t surprising, as the show has been a critical and commercial success for ABC, averaging 6.16 million viewers per episode in January when counting viewers across all platforms.
When Will Abbott Elementary Season 6 Release?
With the popularity of streaming services, it’s become common for TV shows to come back with new seasons at unpredictable times. Some shows now wait over a year between releases, because streaming platforms don’t follow a regular schedule. This is different from traditional network television, where shows typically return with new episodes every year at predictable times.
