Absolute Batman Artist Pitches Idea for DC Anime Show

Nick Dragotta, the artist behind the comic series Absolute Batman, has expressed interest in seeing it become a movie or TV show.

Absolute Batman is a DC Comics series created by writer Scott Snyder and artist Dragotta. It began in October 2024 and has released 13 issues so far, with the 14th issue coming out next month. The series presents a fresh take on Batman, setting him in an alternate universe where he’s a 24-year-old civil engineer working a blue-collar job.

What did Nick Dragotta say about an Absolute Batman adaptation?

During an online Q&A session, artist Greg Dragotta and writer Scott Snyder were asked if they’d discussed a potential adaptation of their ‘Absolute Batman’ story – perhaps as a movie, animated series, or line of toys – with James Gunn.

Dragotta stated he didn’t know of any plans to make the series into a TV show or film, but he expressed his personal desire for it to be adapted as an anime.

Dragotta mentioned that the new Inart and LPZZ toys are being shown at Wonderfest in Shanghai, giving fans a preview of what’s next. While he isn’t familiar with the specific toys, he trusts DC’s reputation for quality and is eager to see what they release. He also expressed a desire to see an anime adaptation of Ab Bat created by Studio Trigger.

This Batman series has already pitted the Dark Knight against frightening enemies like Bane and Killer Croc. But in this universe, those villains – and others – are even larger and more dangerous than before. In issue #15, Bruce Wayne will face off against a massive, Godzilla-sized Joker.

The upcoming Absolute Batman #15, due out in December, will feature a team-up between writer Scott Snyder and artist Jock. The story will reveal a secret from Alfred’s past – the identity of someone he’s been pursuing for years – and will introduce the Joker into the Absolute Universe storyline.
